Title: Re: Do FGW run trains THERE?? Post by: ReWind on August 26, 2011, 17:48:09 FGW don't serve Eastleigh or Bicester..... FGW do serve Eastleigh!! The last Portsmouth Harbour - Westbury service is booked to call at Eastleigh! Along with it being a frequent diversionary call when there are problems at Southampton!! Title: Re: Do FGW run trains THERE?? Post by: Louis94 on August 26, 2011, 18:07:36 FGW don't serve Eastleigh or Bicester..... The last Portsmouth Harbour - Westbury service is booked to call at Eastleigh! This stop is an operational stop for the purpose solely of reversal, and to allow the driver/guard to change ends. Title: Re: Do FGW run trains THERE?? Post by: JayMac on August 26, 2011, 18:16:24 I wondered whether anyone would challenge my answer that FGW don't serve Eastleigh! ;)
I checked various sources before typing, being made aware of the operational stop on the 2123 ex PMH. My definition of 'serve' is providing a passenger service at that station. My definition of 'serve' is providing a passenger service at that station. However the map is defined, it's wrong around Eastleigh - showing the line from Romsey only. Has anyone spotted the FGW destinations which are served which are NOT on the map, and there's at least one line shown over which they don't run any passenger trains. Title: Re: Do FGW run trains THERE?? Post by: JayMac on August 26, 2011, 20:52:40 Oooh, just spotted that the Greenford Branch is missing.
Title: Re: Do FGW run trains THERE?? Post by: Worcester_Passenger on August 26, 2011, 22:19:12 FGW don't operate from Portsmouth to Havant - but it's difficult to rub out a small link like that from the map.

Oh yes they do ;) ... timetable 25 footnote: In addition to the services shown, First Great Western also operate the following: A Monday to Friday service departing Portsmouth Harbour at 0701 to Brighton, calling at Portsmouth & Southsea 0704, Fratton 0709, Havant 0719, Chichester 0731, Barnham 0739, Worthing 0756, Shoreham-by-Sea 0806, Hove 0814 and Brighton 0820 A Saturday service departing Portsmouth Harbour at 0648 to Brighton, calling at Portsmouth & Southsea 0653, Fratton 0657, Havant 0708, Chichester 0719, Barnham 0727, Worthing 0745, Shoreham-by-Sea 0757, Hove 0807 and Brighton 0815 A Sunday service departing Brighton at 2146 calling at Hove 2150, Shoreham-by-Sea 2156, Worthing 2203, Barnham 2218, Chichester 2226, Havant 2247, Fratton 2257, Portsmouth & Southsea 2300 and Portsmouth Harbour 2304 Edit to add smiley. Original post looked a bit gruff! Title: Re: Do FGW run trains THERE?? Post by: Mookiemoo on August 27, 2011, 22:07:47 There was a football special from ports mouth via west bury today to Cardiff so dunno if that explains it.
I do know it had 12 passengers on it as it wasn't advertised and everyone got on the small trains Title: Re: Do FGW run trains THERE?? Post by: grahame on August 28, 2011, 05:21:52 I also spotted the Swansea avoiding line being shown (don't think FGW use it, do they?) and the Pembroke Dock branch terminating prematurely at Pembroke. Depending on how pedantic you want to be, reversal at Combe Junction not shown (other reverssals all are) and rhubarb loop missing. Should I mention Frome on a loop like Weston-s-m is - probably not; there's a limit to how far a map like this can go in terms of reallity.
