Title: Well done all!!! (and esoteric discussions about transport company logos!)
Post by: JayMac on July 14, 2011, 03:07:15
Took a jolly to London yesterday (13/07/2011) for a comedy gig. Andrew Lawrence (v. funny guy) at 'Up The Creek' Comedy Club, Greenwich.

Did a bit of a bash around London through the day - Underground, Overground (♫Wombling free...♫), Trams, DLR and one bus. Totting it up, I used FGW, SWT, Southern, Southeastern, FCC, London Tramlink, DLR, London Overground, London Underground and Abellio for the bus.

Not a single delay, cancellation, ticketing problem etc throughout the day. Even had a friendly chat with an Southern RPI between Victoria and London Bridge (via Peckham Rye). He asked me why I was travelling via such a convoluted route, and I replied, "Why not?" He replied, tongue firmly in cheek, "You're weird!"  ;D ;D ;D

Slightly disappointed that I arrived home without a single cause to complain.  :P ;) ;D

Hmm. It seems to me that Southern RPIs are particularly perceptive ...  ::) ;D

They run training courses for it on the services via Peckham Rye  ;D ;D

In describing myself I prefer, "differently normal" to "weird".

 :P ;) ;D

Re your current sig...

1. If course it's not upside down, because you get exactly the same thing when you invert it!
2. I've heard it said that this was used as the sealink house flag because when you flip the double arrow it gives you an 'S' shape for Sealink, plus shipping passes port side to port side (i.e. drives on the right) as opposed to trains in the UK which generally keep to the left.

And also, having the BR logo mirrored on the Sealink port side funnel meant that the top 'arrow' was facing the direction of travel.

EDIT: Also blakey, your SEPTA (http://www.septa.org/) avatar.... rather reminiscent of the BR logo you think? There are many transport company logos across the world that use stylised 'arrows' in their design.

And to link back to my mentioning of Abellio in the OP. Here's their logo:

Yep, I'd noticed the resemblance between the SEPTA logo and the double arrow, did do a vague bit of digging to find out if there was any connection but didn't find anything and lost interest pretty quickly.

BTW, I'm assuming that abellio is some kind of spawn of Nederlandse Spoorwegen, given the logo...
