Title: Person hit by a train near Southampton Central (10/06/2011)
Post by: Brucey on June 10, 2011, 16:14:28
This is Southampton's departure board (services showing as Delayed are also cancelled):

FGW services diverted through Eastleigh.  No SN or SWT services between Southampton and Fareham - intermediate stations also not being served.

Does anyone have any indication where the incident was?

"Near to the tunnel entrance" according to the local paper.

This (according to my Isle of Wight festival cab driver) will have affected lots of people trying to also get to the festival.. Not sure how long it went on for..

Trains were reported running again towards 1700 when I looked at LDBs on Friday, but with many knock on delays due to crew being out of position.  Trains from Waterloo were running as far as Eastleigh IIRC, and reversing back from there.

Without the train, it can be quite difficult to travel between Southampton and Portsmouth on public transport.  Don't think the X27 is still going.  There may be some NX coaches?  Otherwise, those booked on the ferry from Portsmouth probably had a very long wait at SOU!

In the past, I have found rail replacement bus services run by SWT between Portsmouth and Southampton to be really rather good.
