Quote Line problem between Castle Cary and Westbury. Train services are being disrupted due to a person hit by a train between Castle Cary and Westbury.Short notice alterations, cancellations and delays of up to 60 minutes can be expected. Last Updated: 02/06/2011 14:03 The lunchtime Pullman Service from Plymouth (12:55) looks like it's being held at Taunton prior to possible diversion via Bristol. Edit: is now being diverted to miss Castle Cary and Westbury. This is on top of the signal problems at Reading which have mainly affected the other routes west of Reading except the Berks & Hants line. That was the service which hit the person, Arrived into London Paddington at 1730 - 126 minutes late. My thoughts are with the driver :( Title: Re: Problems - Castle Cary/Westbury - 02 Jun 11 Post by: bobm on June 02, 2011, 18:24:04 My thoughts are with the driver :( Indeed, as always. There are going to be some sets in the wrong place by the end of the day what with this and the signalling problems at Reading. Would have been a rush for the Pullman crew on the 10:00. They'd only have had 30 mins to prepare for the 18:03 home. Not sure if they had a set swap for that. The HST which normally forms that service was also delayed and only got in just after 17:50. Yes, however we are on about a different set which was delayed by some signalling problems at Cardiff I believe. It would depend on whether it was damaged or required cleaning. Title: Re: Problems - Castle Cary/Westbury - 02 Jun 11 Post by: Chris from Nailsea on June 03, 2011, 20:23:33 From the BTP press release (http://www.btp.presscentre.com/Media-Releases/BRITISH-TRANSPORT-POLICE-APPEAL-FOR-WITNESSES-AFTER-INCIDENT-AT-CASTLE-CARY-151a.aspx):
Quote BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE APPEAL FOR WITNESSES AFTER INCIDENT AT CASTLE CARY British Transport Police (BTP) officers investigating the death of a woman on the railway line at Castle Cary rail station, Somerset, on Thursday 2 June are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. The woman^s death is currently being treated as non-suspicious but officers, who will be preparing a file for Coroner, would like to speak to anyone who was at the station at the time of the incident. BTP officers were called to Castle Cary railway station at 1.59pm on Thursday 2 June after the driver of the 10am Penzance to London Paddington service reported striking a person at the station. The train, which was not scheduled to stop at Castle Cary, was travelling at the line speed which is 90mph. Officers from Avon and Somerset police and paramedics also attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Detective Sergeant Jon Rawson, of BTP, said: ^Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the identity of the woman and the full circumstances leading up to her death, which we are not treating as suspicious. We believe there were a number of passengers at the station at the time of the incident and I would appeal to those people to contact police straight away as they may have vital information which can help us build up a full picture of what happened prior to the incident.^ Anyone with information which they believe can assist should contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, quoting log number 336 of 02/06/2011.
