Title: Train not stopping at Bodmin Parkway
Post by: 81F on June 02, 2011, 07:55:06
The 0645 Penzance - Paddington started 20 mins late today and appears to be dropping a minute or two on each leg of its journey through Cornwall. FGW Live Updates now shows that this train will not call at Bodmin Parkway "due to a train fault".

I have known trains to miss the stop at Totnes when one power car is poorly. Does the same happen at Bodmin Parkway, or is there an alternative reason for this stop being cancelled?

Eastbound from Bodmin is an uphill start which a poorly hst would struggle with.

Does anyone know what the reason was for the 0806 not stopping at Bodmin Parkway this morning (09-06-11)?

As far as i'm aware it was running on 1 power car only, after the rear one got shut down following a problem leaving Penzance.

In the past I remember being told that HSTs running on one power car were not allowed to work west of either Exeter or Plymouth or is this only in the down direction?

It failed on departure from Penzance, and as Penzance has no spare sets it makes sense to run the train and withdraw the Bodmin and Totnes stops, however the Tiverton, Taunton and Westbury stops were also withdrawn.

Generally I think the rule is to try and swap sets if the train is working on one power car, however it can run beyond Exeter, but it can't stop at Totnes or Bodmin on the up. Neither can it go to Paignton or Newquay.

Quite right, if on one power car they aren't meant to call at Par on the down but St Germans and St Erth can also cause problems and sometimes removed, on the up Bodmin is a no no and also sometimes Hayle.

Thanks for the prompt answers, so on the same departure from Penzance for two consecutive weeks, identical problems with the train.
