Title: Exeter St. Davids Improved Lighting
Post by: Bob_Blakey on March 05, 2011, 08:26:16
Can't find this mentioned elsewhere.

The old wooden warehouses adjacent to EXD Platform 6 have been gone for around (I think!) 3-4 weeks, and a silver-grey metal fence has been installed.

Although the fencing isn't absolutely ideal I do think it it better than what preceeded it.

Do you mean to say that that old cooker has gone? Was quite fond of him!

I understand that the cooker in your pic was in fact from the FGW drivers top link rest room. There is talk that a preservation bid has now been launched to save this 1950's
item for a Heritage railway in the South West!

My understanding is the City Council requested the removal of the old NCL wooden shed as it was incomplete following a fire some time back and a bit of an eyesore. Im not sure what if any plans exist for the land, there is some talk of extending some of the yard sidings though.

The old cooker isn't ex Exeter Messroom, so isn't really rateable for preservation....
