Title: RAIB investigation into train dispatch incident at Brentwood, Essex, 28 Jan 2011
Post by: Chris from Nailsea on February 24, 2011, 14:02:22
From the RAIB website (http://www.raib.gov.uk/publications/current_investigations_register/110128_brentwood.cfm):

Quote
The RAIB is investigating an incident that occurred as passengers were leaving the 23:05 hrs London Liverpool Street to Shenfield train at Brentwood station, at about 23:43 hrs on Friday 28 January.

A passenger was injured when she fell between the train and the platform while alighting from the rear set of doors of the rear coach of the eight-coach train. The person who fell was held by another passenger until the back of the train had passed clear and then assisted back onto the platform after it had departed.

The RAIB^s preliminary examination has identified that the train was being operated by the driver alone (as are many of the passenger trains on this route) and that the station was unstaffed at the time of the incident. At this station, train drivers are provided with a television monitor, mounted on the platform adjacent to their cab, to enable them to see the back of the train.

The investigation will review the way the train was operated and the train dispatch arrangements at Brentwood.

The RAIB^s investigation is independent of any investigations by the safety authority (the Office of Rail Regulation).

The RAIB will publish a report, including any recommendations to improve safety, at the conclusion of its investigation. This report will be available on the RAIB website.
