Title: West Fleet Refurbishment
Post by: Sion Bretton on October 22, 2007, 08:17:35
I had the pleasure to ride on a refurbished 158.
http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Content.aspx?id=1692

The seats were very comfort, nice and clean the would of got 10 out of 10 but lost a point as there were no power points on the train at tables. FGW installed power points on the refurbished High Speed Services; Customers travelling up from Portsmouth to Bristol/Cardiff may want to do work on their Laptops. Come on First think again

most laptops these days have around a 4 hour battery life, so i really dont see the point on having it on non high speed commuter services

158 alternators are not man enough to cope with the extra power, Wessex initially wanted to install them on their refurbished 158's but couldn't because of this.

There are not any flip down tables on the airline seats, how can anyone safely have a coffee etc, then again no catering is provided at weekends......

As stated eslewhere in the forum this was an error and all other refresh units will have these 'tables'.

Around Cattistock nr Maiden Newton is a common place to find sheep in the four foot....  Wales (Venturing only as deep as Cardiff you understand..) you are more likely to have stones thrown through the cab window...

Heard today the refurb 158 has been subject of the graffitti artists....seems as if when FGW try and do something to improve the trains this is what happens.....
