Title: Thames branches day ranger Post by: anthony215 on February 15, 2011, 16:39:47 Going to Didcot on friday and may get my self a oxfordshire & thames branches day ranger since i want to visit the Bicester Town branch and the Henley on thames branch, the question i have is particulary i i do go down to paddington after lunch am i allowed to use use the heathrow connect services between London Paddington & ealing broadway/hayes & harlington?
i am asking as the units do have the FGW logo on them but not sure if they would be valid and cant seem to find any info Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: ChrisB on February 15, 2011, 16:42:06 I believe so, just not beyond Hayes & H into Heathrow.
Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: eightf48544 on February 15, 2011, 16:51:41 I used to use them with a Gold Card occasionaly out of Padd to Hayes.
Nice quite smooth ride with good acceleration, but then they are electric and don't have an underfloor engine. Which is why I find it odd that people seem to object to wires getting to Reading and beyond. As Chris B says don't try to get to Heathrow as they sting something like ^7 or 8 single from Hayes to Termianl 1-3. Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: JayMac on February 15, 2011, 17:00:51 The information provided by National Rail Enquiries (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/promotions/pr601e4c0a04000200f63dfe8f29a46f/details.html) appears to suggest, by omission, that the TBDR is not valid on Heathrow Connect, as it only lists First Great Western under 'Train Companies'.
The TBDR is also not listed under 'Special Offers' for Heathrow Connect on NRE either. As to the logos on the Heathrow Connect units, that'd be First Group's stylised 'f' and not any FGW branding. Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: anthony215 on February 15, 2011, 17:02:28 Thanks for the warning but i am not going to heathrow. I do plan on getting at least 1 trip on a class 360 during the off peak as i can see what they are like at peak times. i think it will be a good idea for trains to be 10 carriages during peak hours when crossrail is completed
Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: ChrisB on February 15, 2011, 17:17:23 THe warning is that it may NOT be available on Connect trains at all....
Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: anthony215 on February 15, 2011, 19:06:53 I will ask the booking clerk at the office when i purchase my rover tickets to confirm whether or no it can be used on heathrow connect services.
Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: IainH on February 15, 2011, 20:18:21 According to the leaflet on the FGW site, it is valid on heathrow connect between Hayes & Paddington.

Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: JayMac on February 15, 2011, 20:55:36 Good find there IainH.
Conflicting information in the public domain regarding ticket validity. On the railways? Well I never! Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: anthony215 on February 16, 2011, 11:48:02 Thank you everyone who helped. I hopefully will put pics and a report on my day on saturdays
Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: Electric train on February 16, 2011, 18:14:32 I often see a TTI traveling on the Connect service, just ask before you travel
Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: Ollie on February 16, 2011, 23:34:50 I often see a TTI traveling on the Connect service, just ask before you travel Heathrow Connect usually has 2 or 3 ticket people on it.Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: Mookiemoo on February 17, 2011, 00:03:20 I often see a TTI traveling on the Connect service, just ask before you travel Heathrow Connect usually has 2 or 3 ticket people on it.not before broadway if you leg it into the train - im on oyster so I'm not being dodgy but I've never been checked Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: Ollie on February 17, 2011, 00:11:33 not before broadway if you leg it into the train - im on oyster so I'm not being dodgy but I've never been checked Unlikely for them to check between Pad and Ealing cos both are barriered. But they have staff on board for the entire journey.Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: eightf48544 on February 17, 2011, 09:22:31 I've always had my ticket checked on Connect.
Never seen more than 3/4 people staying on at Hayes. Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: HexDriver on February 17, 2011, 11:06:47 Connect is a joint venture between Hex and FGW and is therefore a FGW service between Padd and Hayes and becomes a HEX service between Hayes and Heathrow hence why travelcards aren't valid after Hayes.
Therefore the day ranger ticket will be valid between Padd and Hayes Title: Re: Thames branches day ranger Post by: JayMac on February 17, 2011, 13:45:04 Thank you very much for that info HexDriver, from the horses mouth, as it were! :D
