Title: Chinese trains on British tracks next year? Post by: grahame on January 22, 2011, 08:55:55 We've talked about it before ...
http://www.rmtbristol.org.uk/2009/01/alstom_boss_says_world_should.html#more Interesting slant from Alstom on buying Chinese. Which I would have a lot of sympathy for, were it not for the fact that the French don't exactly have an open market when prestigious contracts are being let. http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/90001/90778/7266470.html Quote The Polaris train deal is pending approval from the UK rail regulator and Quote Shipley [managing director of CSRE Ltd] declined to comment on the other three possible UK deals Title: Re: Chinese trains on British tracks next year? Post by: JayMac on January 22, 2011, 10:14:12 Question is.... who for?
The article mentions use from 'northern England to London' and links the Polaris trains with Alliance Rail. But that only appears to cover one of the four propsed deals. Could we really see open access next year on the WCML with GNWR and another open access operator on the ECML with Alliance Rail's re-boot of GNER? As for the other deals then one can only assume that as Deutsche Bahn's Arriva Group are mentioned then it is to their TOCs that any subsequent Chinese built trains are headed. There's also Grand Central who have voiced plans to buy Chinese, but no orders have yet been placed. Title: Re: Chinese trains on British tracks next year? Post by: anthony215 on January 22, 2011, 10:57:21 From what has been posted on other rail forums it does seem like alliance rail are looking at purchasing some BI-mode polaris trains which are basically another version of the proposed IEP.
Grand central are rumoured to also be interested in the polaris. If these rumours etc are true then it could get CSRE the EU train manufacturing market. Wasn't there talk by CSRE that they would open a factory in the UK if they received some train orders? Maybe crosscountry could be interested buying some of these locomotives to work with some additonal MK3 stock Title: Re: Chinese trains on British tracks next year? Post by: JayMac on January 22, 2011, 11:06:51 Not sure there's much spare serviceable Mk3 stock left. If DB/Arriva CrossCountry were in the market for some Polarises (Polari?) I'd hope they would go for the designed 2+6/7/8 and leave the buffet/kitchen area alone!!!
Polaris data sheet can be found here (http://www.csre.co.uk/files/Download/2009%20Polaris%20Data%20Sheet.pdf). Title: Re: Chinese trains on British tracks next year? As ever, your pedantry knows no bounds. ;) ;D Title: Re: Chinese trains on British tracks next year? Post by: eightf48544 on January 22, 2011, 15:23:34 Wonder how long it take to get all the various approvals?
Be very surprised even a coule of sets were impoted shorly that they would be ready before mid 2012 at the earliest. Do thay have to get both type and route approval? I feel obliged to point out that I wasn't actually being pedantic. :P Title: Re: Chinese trains on British tracks next year? Post by: Chris from Nailsea on January 22, 2011, 20:18:46 ;D
