Title: Weather related queries
Post by: matt473 on December 19, 2010, 20:17:18
Tomorrow morning I am off to Bristol (hopefully) but have a few problems that need addressing Any answers would be greatfully appreciated.

1. I have advanced tickets on 9.28 from Swansea but am travelling in on HOW service that gets in at 9.08. Assuming this train is late or cancelled, where do I stand in regards to refunds or catching a later train. I know it is not a through ticket so may be some issues but are things slightly more slack when the weather causes problems.

2. The journey back on Tuesday requires me catching a bus back from Swansea however with more snow predicted these may be cancelled. This would leave me stranded in Swansea as my arrival would be after the last HOW service has left. Would First be willing to be flexible in allowing earlier travel to enable to catch it or allow travel day after? The bus I intend to catch is also part of the First group empire being the x13 to Ammanford/Llandeilo so if this is not running then would First be willing to help out by FGW being flexible?

I sadly am assuming I will not like the probable answers but it would be nice to know that common sense and flexibility within the whole transport industry is shown when things stop because of the weather?

I can't answer your question but I would strongly advise you to reconsider travelling tomorrow!

Heavy snow lasting nearly all day is forecast for the west country, could have up to 15cm in favoured areas!  This will cause travel disruption!

I wouldn't travel unless you really need too!

The source, Im a gritter in Bristol!  We have been warned by the Met!

The bugger is I have advanced tickets so if I can't travel tomorrow then I might as well not bother. Then I have to go through the whole will I get all my money back scenario. Not good

We have been pretty flexible with advance tickets at pad. We've been working on the 30-45min either side rule.
A few execeptions to this though. If another TOC delayed them then providing we have proof of the delay (TRUST/CCLDB) we let them on next train.
If your abusive to us because of the delays we won't help you at all! And smile as your escorted out the station.

As I said above we are being flexible, at least at pad.

Just to say thankfully the trip was a success (apart from the money the missus spent of mine :P). Only problem as such was the late running of the HOW but the hst at Swansea was held for connecting passangers by a few minutes so inter TOC working to benefit passangers. Also even though I did not have time to collect tickets at Swanseathe Train manager usedcommon sense and accepted the confirmation e-mail saying to collect ticket at Parkway. Nice to see some flexibility being shown and staff commended for it.With the railway working better than air and road in the weather this should be used in poisitive media. Not what they chose toreport which isonlythe East coast problems
