Number 4 is Dr Days Junction (Bristol).  To have taken the photo from that angle, you must have been within the Network Rail bit in the middle of the triangle.  Afraid that I can't link this into any of the other photos.

Edit: looking at the photo carefully, you are on a train so must have passed over Bristol East Junction.

I think 2 is the new Newport Station, and 3 is where Llanwern steelworks used to be.  ;)

Have you been in Birkenhead???

Birkenhead, yes ... just leaving there now.

New Newport - yes.

No picture of Llanwern ... no Manchester, though.

You should be able to tell me the time of the train I caught in Bath ;-) to sort out the Bristol bit

Did you perhaps travel across the Rhubarb. From memory there is a service that avoids BRI in the afternoon?? Or am I the wrong side of the junction?? :D

3 resembles the view from the line between Patchway and Filton.

That'd be the 1408 from Bath Spa. 1338 Westbury to Bristol Parkway service over the Rhubarb avoiding Temple Meads.

No. 3 is indeed between Filton and Patchway ... and No. 4 was the Rhubarb loop / 14:08 ex Bath.  But - alas - No. 5 ain't Crewe though it looks rather like it.   Didn't go to Crewe!

Hi,

Is no5 Chester Station?

Basset

Would have to be the misery rail part rather than the big train part

*note - I refer to local systems such as the tube and miseryrail as small trains and the others as big trains amongst my friends*

No. 5 is indeed Chester ...

Melksham -> Bath on the X72 Faresaver (first day of the new extended service to the bus station in Bath)
Bath -> Filton Abbey Wood on the  Rhubarb Loop Special
Filton Abbey Wood -> Newport on the Taunton / Cardiff service
Newport -> Chester on the Holyhead train
Chester -> Birkenhead Hamilton Square on the Liverpool Central train
Birkenhead -> Belfast on the DFDS ferry

Far from miserable ...

and a classic reminder that a quiet-looking station is NOT an unused one - here were lots of people waiting in that train!

would it not have been cheaper/quicker to fly to belfast?

would it not have been cheaper/quicker to fly to belfast?

And this question from the lady who's been known to travel from Bristol to Bath by way of Beachey Head to get a window seat with a table in First Class  ;D

I have a considerable amount of heavy equipment with me - in the past, such trips have always been with the car, on the ferry.  With a wheelie bag, if I can cut down sufficiently to allow me to use train / boat and keeping the stuff with me, but I can't cut down enough to fly;  I recall a flight to the middle east where my excess baggage fee one way exceeded my return ticket price.  I'm also concerned at the saftey of all my stuff in the hands of the airlines, and their possible concern about what it is security wise.

Headlines fares ... not bad.   Have spent more than I would on a flight, but have not had to pay for airport parking, hotel last night (slept on boat), breakfasts, evening meals which would all have been extras.

Not sure if we've established the location, but number three is looking over the demolished Rolls Royce factory.. in the background is the threshold of Filton's runway.

Yep ... I think we have them all ...No. 5 is Chester and No. 3 is the site or the Rolls Royce factory.  No more at the moment ... I'm on the buses in Northern Ireland  ;)
