Title: Train fire at Tiverton
Post by: tramway on November 18, 2010, 23:52:19
Anyone know anything other than the firebrigade called to a service about 19.00 at Tiverton this evening, we were stuck behind the incident for about 45 mins.

Possibly this - from FGW live updates:

Line problem between Taunton and Exeter St Davids.

Train services have been disrupted due to a broken down train between Taunton and Exeter St Davids. Engineers have worked as fast as possible to restore services to normal. Delays of up to 60 minutes may still occur.

1C88 1636 Paddington - Exeter St Davids reported to have smoke coming into coach 42102 and the source was not known, fire service suspected it to have a small fire in air conditioning ducting on 42102.

Following the discovery, train then terminated at Tiverton Parkway and moved to the loop I would imagine once declared all safe.

Up trains were also affected, 1A94 1600 Penzance - London Paddington and 1M83 1825 Plymouth - Birmingham New Street were both delayed by around an hour, this was shortly followed by 1A96 1954 Exeter St Davids - London Paddington starting from Taunton, instead of Exeter. 1A35 1739 Penzance - London Paddington was minorly affected with just a 5-10 minute delay incurred.

Following this incident 1C91 1736 London Paddington - Paignton was subsequently terminated at Newton Abbot.

Was there some 'Hot' entertainment on the Volo screens then?

TSM...  ::) ;D

this was shortly followed by 1A96 1954 Exeter St Davids - London Paddington starting from Taunton, instead of Exeter.

1C88 forms 1A96, so assuming another set was used starting at Taunton  ???

Ah yes it does, I forgot about that!

Not sure what they used to form it, I'd imagine it was most proberly the HST from 1C22, which normally runs empty back to Laira and was proberly stuck behind 1C88, so was reversed somewhere to go back and form it, as it did depart Taunton about half hour late. This leaving the set from 1C88 to go to Laira.
