From South Devon Herald Express (http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/news/Network-Rail-tackles-bird-problem-bridge/article-2796161-detail/article.html):

A pigeon poo problem at a Paignton railway bridge may soon be a thing of the past.

Residents in Lower Polsham Road who objected to a growing crust of avian excrement on the pavement under the bridge have been delighted to hear there is progress to clean up the mess.

Irene Preston, 79, organised a petition to Torbay Council calling on it to press bridge owners Network Rail to net the underneath of the bridge to stop pigeons roosting overnight and fouling the pavement beneath.

Now she has been told Network Rail has agreed to do the work. She said: "This is a thrilling result and it is all down to the 67 people who signed the petition."

A Torbay Council spokesman said: "We can confirm that we have received a letter from Network Rail advising us that they are proposing to carry out suitable remedial works on the bridge to address the pigeon nuisance.

"We will be liaising with them regarding suitable dates for this work to be carried out. We do not know at this stage whether this work will require any restrictions on traffic or pedestrian movements."

A Network Rail spokesman said: "Our contractors are currently working to get permission from local authorities to close the roads for work to be carried out. We will begin as soon as that is being approved."

Torbay without OAPs moaning in the Herald Express wouldn't be the same. Wonder if they've got over hurrah caused with new bins!
