From This is Devon (http://www.thisisdevon.co.uk/news/Train-danger-yacht-drifted-tracks/article-2738625-detail/article.html):

Quote
Coastguards were alerted to a yacht which ended up perilously close to a main railway line after drifting across a Devon estuary.

The boat came to rest near the seawall between Starcross and Cockwood carrying the main Exeter to Penzance train.

It happened just before 8am yesterday after the yacht slipped from its moorings near the Exe Sailing Club at Exmouth.

The boat drifted across the River Exe and came to rest near the seawall and the rail track.

Coastguards who were alerted to the incident said it posed a danger to the train.

A work team from Network Rail were called after a train driver reported the swaying mast near the track.

The boat is thought to belong to a member of the Exe Sailing Club and was removed during the morning.

A spokesman for Brixham Coastguards said their local team of their volunteers was called to secure the boat.

She said: "There was a potential danger. The yacht had slipped its moorings and we believe it is owned by a member of the sailing club.

A spokeswoman from Network Rail said "The train driver reported seeing the mast potentially striking the train near the seawall. We sent a team to rescue the boat."

The sailing club said there were many members about yesterday morning but nobody saw the boat lose its moorings.
