Line incident

Line problem between Par and Penzance.

Train services have been disrupted due to a broken down train between Par and Penzance. Engineers have worked as fast as possible to restore services to normal. Short notice alterations, cancellations and delays of up to 60 minutes may still occur.

Owing to the extent of the disruption affecting this route it will take a couple of hours before we are able to restore services to normal.

It was the sleeper train (57603 - Tintagel Castle) that broke down at St Austell Station at around 0630 this morning. The problem was the loss of air pressure. The train was still blocking the platform until approximately 1000 when the train was moved into the sidings near St Austell station. A Freightliner loco was used to attempt to rescue the set but this failed.

Sleeper set backed into refuge siding after some help from a fitter. Here the loco detached and ran into the old Motorail Stub for further attention. Once in a fit state the loco recoupled to the stock and ran as 5Z99 13:50 St.Austell to Penzance. I have a photo http://southwestrailphots.fotopic.net/p67544102.html (http://southwestrailphots.fotopic.net/p67544102.html) While this siding sees occassional use during engineering blocks the section of track the loco is actually on in the picture hasnt seen a train in a long while.... 57605 ran light OOC to Penzance to work the up 1A40, 57603 persumably is still at PZ ???
