The train concerned in this incident was the 1357 Paddington to Plymouth I know because I was on it when the incident happened. As the train decended Hemerden Bank near Plymouth there was an emergency brake application and the train came to halt overlooking Plympton fire station. The trains pubic address system informed passengers that there had been a "very serious lineside incident" and the police had been called.Apparently a man was injured and narrowly escaped death and ran off but was soon was arrested by the police. We eventually arrived in Plymouth about an hour late at 1830.I would like to say on behalf of the train crew that we were kept well informed and the delay was kept to the minimum.
Heard a passenger who was leaning out of the vestibule door window say that someone in flapjacket walking the track told him the man was laying between the tracks and that when the whole train had gone over him he had stood up and ran off and that he was not injured as bad as he could of been.
