Title: London to Taunton Prices
Post by: Niceaction on August 30, 2010, 22:50:51
I'm travelling to Taunton from London on December 10th, and will be getting an open return.  Having looked at prices on the website, it looks like ^60 is the cheapest available.
Will this price go down at all?  I'm wondering whether advance tickets only go on sale 3 months in advance or something like that?  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, niceaction!  :)

Advance Purchase fares are (as of today) only available up until the 10th November. If you can provide more details of the dates/times you wish to travel, both out and return, I can look at the options for a flexible walk-up fare.

Advance Purchase tickets limit you travel on the booked train(s) only and are normally available up to 12 weeks before. If you require flexibilty with your travel plans, then a walk up ticket (Anytime Return, Off Peak Return, Super Off Peak Return - all permit return within one month) wil be a better option, but will cost you more. If cost is your main consideration then you'll need to wait until Advance Purchase booking opens for your dates of travel. There may also be options for 'split ticketing' or a different route.

And just to add to bignosemac's advice, there's a range of advance purchase tickets available and they go as low as ^11.50 each way, so ^23 is the cheapest you could get there and back (without a railcard). Or if you wished to go 1st Class you could do the trip there and back for ^54.  As ever though, for the best bargains check almost daily to see if the cheaper fares have been released for sale!

I did once back last year travel on the Night Riviera sleeper from Taunton to London and returned the next evening  for ^7.90 each way.

When i last  used it a few months ago the cheapest fare i could find was just over ^11 each way
