Title: How do you get from temple meads to cabots circus
Post by: Mookiemoo on July 29, 2010, 19:52:35
Quickly and easily with a small suit case..........

I need to pick something up from PRavins tomorrow and the one thing I have worked out for bristol is - google maps is not your friend

i'll be on foot but if more than 10 minutes walk (I will have a suitcase) a taxi is an option

Google maps reckons about 20-25 minutes' walk, 1.2 miles:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Bristol+Temple+Meads+Station,Bristol,BS1+6QF,+BS1+6QF,+United+Kingdom+(Bristol+Temple+Meads+Railway+Station)&daddr=Cabot+Circus,+United+Kingdom&hl=en&geocode=FTQNEQMduJzY_yHBit_4IDOe_A%3BFTIyEQMdfo7Y_yGmZwcY3UHIVQ&mra=ls&dirflg=w&sll=51.453365,-2.583725&sspn=0.015939,0.045447&ie=UTF8&ll=51.453445,-2.584362&spn=0.015939,0.045447&z=15 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Bristol+Temple+Meads+Station,Bristol,BS1+6QF,+BS1+6QF,+United+Kingdom+(Bristol+Temple+Meads+Railway+Station)&daddr=Cabot+Circus,+United+Kingdom&hl=en&geocode=FTQNEQMduJzY_yHBit_4IDOe_A%3BFTIyEQMdfo7Y_yGmZwcY3UHIVQ&mra=ls&dirflg=w&sll=51.453365,-2.583725&sspn=0.015939,0.045447&ie=UTF8&ll=51.453445,-2.584362&spn=0.015939,0.045447&z=15)

Turn right down Temple Way, then it's a left turn onto Temple Back, turn right at the end, cross over the water, first left then keep going roughly straight. You can probably walk it quicker than that if you're in a hurry. Alternatively if you don't want to risk getting lost round Temple Back, if you just head straightish down Temple Way that becomes Bond Street which runs along the back of Cabot Circus.

Or, if the times are convenient, you could take the Bristol Ferryboat Company (http://www.bristolferry.com/Timetables.php?service=Templemeads), landing stage out the back of Temple Meads - Castle Park would be the stop for Cabot Circus, it's a short walk away.

I know buses are not your friend but if you catch the 8/9 bus you are not it for no longer than 5mins so I dont know if that makes it a credible option due to the short amount of time on the bus.

You can pay cash and get change back assuming the driver has change otherwise you will be given a change ticket you can redeem on a different bus or at the office at the bus station. If I remember rightly a single will not cost more than ^1.50

Ok - sounds like bus it is

Now I'm going to sound like a complete snob/numpty but.....remember I've only been in the area a few weeks and have NEVER left Temple meads unles escorted by car

Where do I get the  bus and which side of the road?

At the top of the station approach: go out through the main doors and the bus stops for services 8 and 9 are immediately to the right. There's often a queue of buses waiting on the ramp whilst the drivers have a ciggy/layover, but if you try getting on one of them you'll get pretty short shrift, so just wait at the actual stop and they'll pull up there in their own good time.

The ferry's much more fun though, and only GBP 2.70 return! ;)

TBH

Ferry does sound more fun - less chance of me running for the bathrooms when I get there

Where do I get that from?

Landing stage is out the back of the station - there are white signs for "Ferry" if I remember correctly. The barrier/booking hall staff should be able to point you in the right direction. The Bristol Ferryboat Co also give directions here (http://www.bristolferry.com/ferryService.php?service=Map). Hope that's useful.

Something worth noting with regards to Buses at Temple Meads...

If you happen to miss the 8 or 9 and don't fancy waiting another 5 or 10 mins. Walk down to the end of the station, if your not sure where that is, head for the Holiday Inn right infront of the station entrance. Cross the road at the traffic lights just to the right, and once your the other side of the road, head left towards some bus stops... Buses serve there about every 2 - 3 minutes. I've never waited there longer than that.

Most services from there will take you to the Galleries (except X39 and 339), Alight at KFC, walk to the bottom of the hill and turn right, Cabot Circus is about a 4 minute walk from there. :)

If you do happen to take 8 or 9 ring the Bell to get off as you get the other side of the traffic lights on the roundabout with the main road going underneath (sounds odd but makes sense when you get there) If you ding before this point, the bus stops at the stop just short of the roundabout. Anytime afterwards, you'll end up going all the way round to St James Barton before you can get off!

Once off head past the Multi Story carpark and theres a large walkway to your left, head down there with Cabot Circus on your right, Turn right when you get to the end of the walkway and your there ;D

HTH :)
