Title: THE CORNISH RIVIERA over the The Royal Albert Bridge Post by: FlyingDutchman on June 26, 2010, 19:43:39 I was surprised to see a King Class plus a Castle Class come over the bridge.
I thought The Kings were too heavy for the Bridge in the GWR Days. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornish_Riviera_Express Guy Title: Re: THE CORNISH RIVIERA over the The Royal Albert Bridge Post by: Chris from Nailsea on June 26, 2010, 23:12:19 See another topic on this subject for further details: http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=7013.msg69868#msg69868
Title: Re: THE CORNISH RIVIERA over the The Royal Albert Bridge Post by: smokey on June 30, 2010, 17:49:56 In the 1960's Royal Albert Bridge was strengthened, however I'm led to believe that this strengthing, (the bits that go rusty very quick) ARE to be removed during the forthcoming ^10M revamp due soon.
Before anyone panics additional Strengthing is to be fitted, but not on view. Title: Re: THE CORNISH RIVIERA over the The Royal Albert Bridge Post by: andrewr on July 23, 2010, 10:15:53 Weren't some 'Kings' sent over the bridge in the war from Plymouth to keep them out of the way of the bombing? Sure I read that somewhere in my research notes for my next book... will see if I can dig it out...
