DO YOU KNOW THIS MAN? APPEAL FOR INFORMATION AFTER MEMBER OF RAIL STAFF ASSAULTED - BRISTOL

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for the public^s help to identify a man they would like to speak to in connection with an assault on a member of railway staff at Bristol Parkway station.

Officers have today released CCTV images of the man they believe can help with their enquiries into the incident.

At around 5.40pm on Sunday 25 April, the 37-year-old member of staff had just finished duty at Bristol Parkway when a male passenger approached the ticket barriers at the station.

The passenger had a railway staff privilege pass which did not have the necessary details filled in. The member of staff asked the man to fill in the details but he repeatedly refused to do so.

The member of staff told him he could not travel and the man then poked the member of staff underneath the eye before making off from the station in a car.

Officers believe the man in the CCTV images may have information which can assist them.

PC Tony Watt said: ^Members of rail staff should be able to carry out their duties without fear of being assaulted by passengers. BTP will not tolerate behaviour such as this and I would appeal for anyone who recognises this man to contact police straight away.^

The man BTP would like to speak to is described as being of mixed race, aged about 26, about 5ft 10in with short, black hair. He was wearing a white and beige-coloured top, beige-coloured cotton shorts and had a gold chain around his neck.

He was carrying a black rucksack and a Clinton Cards plastic carrier bag. Staff at Bristol Parkway believe he may have been intending to travel to either Gloucester or Cheltenham.

Anyone who recognises the man, or who knows his whereabouts, is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident number 353 of 25/04/2010
