Probably useful to people who don't know the website address for first great western and are not capable of using a search engine? Maybe? ;)

Thanks, chaps!

Yes, we seasoned regulars do tend to only post details of major disruptions affecting FGW services, here on the Coffee Shop forum, rather than all of the incidental ones - but please bear with any new member here, who is only trying to be helpful?

Chris.  :)

You left out the ones who haven't seen the top left hand corner of the page...

Hmmm ... as the person who actually put that stuff on the top left corner of the page, may I be permitted a comment?

Cancellations / postponements / short workings / delays are bad news for the train operating companies, and so the news on their own sites tends to get taken away very soon indeed for PR reasons once the issue has been fixed / the train was due to finish its run anyway.  Whereas posting them up here as forum posts keeps them for much longer - archives them, if you like.  The original message which started this thread has long since gone off the FGW site, but (thanks to James158) it is still here ...

I am not advocating that someone cut and paste all (or even many) "service issues" here.   It would dilute the rest of the forum's content, and many of us would spend a lot of time looking for wood amongst a veritable forest of bushes.  However, where there's a pattern, something significant / different / unusual / even humerous in one of these issues, I have no objection to them being reposted for critical review (note that latter stipulation - I do not want to risk any copyright issues!)

As I write, I note:

and - in this case - there does seem to be something of a pattern here; I think we have commented in the past just who awfully often Chippenham seems to get "canned" out of the London to Bristol service and ... yet again ...

By the way - for newer members, you can look back at a summary of the last 48 hours of train running here (http://www.savethetrain.org.uk/running.php).

I'm not sure they get taken away because of bad PR, but simply because the message is no longer relevant, so it prevents that section getting cluttered up with unecessary information. I would support that approach.

It's just a shame that the rest of the site is so out of date and unhelpful in providing information relevant to would be passengers.

Yes, I'll agree with you there.  The "PR" comment I made was more along the lines of there not being an archive and although the information about past cancelleations is unnecessary on a day by day basis, it can be really useful if you're looking for trends.

Don't take it to heart James, it's obvious you just want to be helpful. I think the issue really is that the forum is primarily for discussion, hence only really worth putting down major issues as it's likely to be talked about.

The other thing would be Graham has helpfully created a script that shows a map in top left of every page showing if any problems, and by clicking on the map gives you more info.

But it's good to see helpful members on here, no doubt you will  be good asset to the forum...

...just like me (joke :P)

Welcome to the forum by the way :D
