Title: Re: Freight train derailment on Par - Newquay branch line Post by: JayMac on June 09, 2010, 09:53:25 From the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cornwall/10271965.stm):
Quote Cornwall trains suspended in freight derailment Train services between Newquay and Par in Cornwall have been suspended after a freight train derailed. The train, from freight firm Dbschenker, came off the tracks at the company's rail yard at St Blazey. No-one was injured, but passenger services are affected because it happened on a line adjacent to the Newquay to Par branch line. Passenger bus services are in place while work is carried out to make the 20.75-mile (33-km) line operational. The unit came off the rails but remained upright. However, engineers said it was making the branch line unsafe. Network Rail engineers are on site to assess what needs to be done. The passenger line links Par on the English Channel coast and Newquay on the Atlantic. Title: Re: Freight train derailment on Par - Newquay branch line Post by: The SprinterMeister on June 11, 2010, 20:37:07 Train appears to have come to grief at No 16 points at the north of the St Blazey station layout where the Up & Down Newquay lines converge into the single line. The train was being reversed into the Through Siding in St Blazey yard. The train was too long to be accomodated in the loop at the former St Blazey station and clear of SB26 ground disc so was signalled past SB39 towards SB38 at Middleway Crossing on the single line. Appears to have come to grief on setting back, rear end of propelled train & leading end of the derailed polybulk wagon running on the Down Newquay and points 28 into the through siding and the trailing end and the rest of the train running on the Up Newquay back towards Par. The Polybulk wagon eventually ran out of bogie rotation and derailed, demolishing Ground discs SB24 & SB26 and Yard exit signal SB41 before coming to rest.

The Fowey Main is the stretch of line that gives entrance to St Blazey yard down towards the level crossing and Par docks So called in the distant days of being able to access Fowey from the St Blazey direction, which was turned into Haul road for Imerys although it was not known as Imerys then of course ;) This page is printed from the "Coffee Shop" forum at http://gwr.passenger.chat which is provided by a customer of Great Western Railway.
