Title: Road closures for tonight's leaders debate
Post by: Brucey on April 22, 2010, 11:33:56
Not railway related, but of importance to people who wish to endure Bristol's congested roads today.

The leaders debate will take place at the Arnolfini between 8pm and 9:30pm.  There will be a number of road closures around the area.  The full details are listed, with a map, on the Avon & Somerset Constabulary website: http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/newsroom/live-tv-debate.aspx

I've spotted a number of TV crews in and around Bristol today.  Presumably the leaders will be visiting different areas during the day.  There may also be traffic problems or police restrictions in these areas.

I spotted BBC Breakfast filming at Bristol Uni today, not quite sure why, unless of course the debate is being held there!

They certainly were.  There was a report on this afternoon (not sure whether it was BBC or Sky) where they interviewed a couple of students.  Although this looked like it was filmed in the gardens of a Clifton hall of residence.  Also some filming down on College Green for the BBC's Politics Show.

I visited the waterfront area earlier and the police operation seemed to be going well.  Everything looked well planned and there were no demonstrations, although I kept getting the impression I was being watched: police helicopter continuously flying over and a policeman/woman at the corner of every street (pedestrians and cyclists only).

I took some photographs of the area.  Even though I didn't legally need to, I did ask permission of the two officers in the first photo before I started taking any photographs, in order to avoid any confusion.

Looking down Prince Street (closed to road traffic) - I hope the gentlemen walking down the road observes the amber traffic light!

My bus to Patchway this morning was briefly held up at Filton roundabout to allow Gordo's cavalcade to roll into the Airbus site.
