Title: Train crashes into level crossing at Norfolk Station. (BBC News 09/04/2010)
Post by: JayMac on April 10, 2010, 09:44:36
From the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/8612647.stm):

Quote
A commuter train has crashed into a gate on a level crossing outside a station in Norfolk.

The accident happened when the Norwich to Liverpool service run by East Midlands Trains hit the gate jamming debris underneath.

Services were halted on the line causing delays on services to Cambridge and the Midlands.

Network Rail said the Train Accident Bureau had been informed and an investigation would be carried out.

Investigation under way

An East Midlands Trains spokesman said: "The 1552 Norwich-Liverpool service was involved in an incident at Harling Road near Thetford when it struck the level crossing gates.

"No passengers on the train and none of the train crew were injured.

"There was minimal damage to the train, however part of the crossing gate became stuck underneath the train.

"Buses replaced trains for a time between Attleborough and Thetford until the gate was removed, allowing the line to re-open.

"We will be working closely with Network Rail to carry out a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident."

To be fair to the BBC they have updated the story removing the reference to the 'Train Accident Bureau'.

'.... at Norfolk Station' would've been a bit more acceptaple if 'Station' didn't have the capital S. Headlines often omit the indefinite article 'a', without losing the sense of the headline.
