Hi Guys, I am wanting to take my little cousin (nearly 5) on a trip to the Eden Project.

This would be from Plymouth Station too Eden Project with the change at St Austell.

When I get too St Austell, I know I have to get on a bus but what times do the bus leave the station and Eden Project?

I would be leaving Plymouth at 9am roughly and leaving Eden at 5pm roughly.
The prices for 1 Adult and 1 Child too please :) (Sorry for being a pain!)

First Devon and Cornwall bus service 101. I'll leave you to look up the times and plan your own journey to and from St Austell using the appropriate websites - sure you can work that one out for yourself.

I have a bit of sympathy regarding the Eden Project admission fee though. I can't find prices online at either FGW, National Rail or Eden Project websites but according to Avantix Traveller the prices are GBP 17.00 adult and GBP 9.00 child. This is added onto your rail fare to St Austell and includes the bus.

These must be bought from a staffed station, you can't get them online (and there's no point booking in advance with a journey that short anyway) so buy them at Plymouth on the day of travel.

Will be going down Plymouth Station in the next couple of days to book my ticket :)

Unless you are going when the ticket office is closed, just buy the ticket on the day - it will be the same price and save you an extra trip to the station.

I was also wondering if I was to buy the ticket from Plymouth Station the day before, could I still get on the train at Devonport the next day because it calls there? And go back to Plymouth Station on the return?

(And don't grill me for buying tickets in advance!)

Assuming you have a ticket that permits break of journey which a cheap day or standard day return will, then that won't be a problem.


Given that three of us have now gone out of our way to provide you with information that was readily available if you looked in the right place, and Brucey was just trying to save you the hassle of an unnecessary trip to the station, that seems like an unduly churlish response Branch Line Connor. Just remember that this isn't an enquiry bureau, and if that's the attitude you're going to give people who are trying to help you out that won't do you too many favours in the future next time you post asking members here to plan your travel arrangements for you.

Starting short is perfectly acceptable as long as you are not travelling on an ADV ticket, and the ticket you hold calls at the stations named on it, and is on a permitted route.

If you get the train from Devonport, the conductor can sell you all the tickets on the train anyway, saving the trip into Plymouth.

I can't get the Eden Project tickets on the train remember, which wipes out Devonport as I need to get them from a staffed station and can't get on at Devonport then if my ticket was advance...

I will probably just get them on the day...

It appears that inspector_blakey may have confused you with his statement that you must buy your tickets from a staffed station. If you are buying a Day Return then you are allowed to start, break/resume, or end your journey at any intermediate station on your chosen route. You can board at Devonport and ask the guard to sell you Off Peak Day Returns (CDRs) from Plymouth (PLY) to Eden Project (XFJ). These will be available on his portable ticket machine. Priced at ^25 for an Adult and ^13 for a Child and inclusive of transfer bus and entrance fee. These are valid on any train timed to depart Plymouth after 0900 Mon-Fri or any train at the weekend, therefore the first train you can catch from Devonport is the 0924 Mon-Fri arriving St Austell 1022. The bus departs the station forecourt at 1035 and is the Western Greyhound service 527, arriving at Eden at 1057. Saturday departure times to Eden from Devenport are 0820 arriving 0957 or 0923 arriving 1057.

If you want to arrive at Eden earlier on a weekday (It opens at 10am) then you will need to purchase Anytime Day Returns (SDRs) at ^30.50 for an Adult and ^15.75 for a Child. you can then board the 0823 from Devonport arriving at Eden for 0957.

On a Sunday the earliest you can get to Eden from Devonport is 1250, with a bit of a wait for a bus from St Austell. There is a bus timed to depart St Austell at 1140 which is the same time as the train arrives!!!! So if you are travelling on a Sunday then it's best if you start from Plymouth with departures at 0905 or 0925.

Returning around 5pm Mon- Fri you have a bus leaving Eden at 1630 which connects into a train at St Austell at 1700 arriving Plymouth 1758. On a Sat you have a bus departing 1600 with the train leaving St Austell at 1651 arriving Plymouth 1750. For Sun you have a bus leaving 1605 for a train at St Austell leaving 1710 arriving Plymouth 1807. Bit of a wait for the train on a Sunday - there is an earlier one but it leaves 1 minute after the 1605 bus is due to arrive!!!

The buses maybe either Western Greyhound's 527 or First Devon and Cornwall's 101.

My apologies if I confused you by mentioning Advance Purchase tickets (ADV). I did not mean buying any ticket type in advance which you are free to do. If you do go to Plymouth station to get your Day Return tickets in advance of your travel date remember to specify the date you wish to travel when you buy.



Not quite true blakey. You can buy tickets online for The Eden Project, but strangely only from Mixing Deck based websites (East Coast, Southern, London Midland etc.). Obviously this needs to be done sufficiently far in advance of travel date for them to be delivered or at least 2 hours before travel if collecting from a stations ticket machine. There are however no Advance Purchase (ADV) tickets to Eden Project.

Forget any inclusive ticketing.

Buy whatever train tickets are applicable/you want to St Austell, then buy inclusive Bus/Eden entry ticket on the WESTERN GREYHOUND service (I think no 527) they do it for about ^4 less on the adult price.
