Digital & Staff announcements that 16:16 Paignton Pacer is delayed by 6 mins - couple of families with small children see a train coming and expect it to crawl in and stop so they stand right at the platform edge.

I could see it was the following XC HST which had overtaken the Pacer at the Warren - got the folks to stand back just as it came through at full speed with no warning.

This is quite normal at Dawlish whereas at Newton Abbot staff will come out and a message gets played.

i have heard auto anouncements at unstaffed stations playing a message warning of none stopping passing trains im surprised that this isnt used

There are no such pre-recorded messages played at Nailsea & Backwell, where the line speed is 100mph.  ::)

Announcements might have been appropriate on Friday morning, when the 0713 and 0746 departures sped through at 100mph within 3 minutes of each other at around the time that the 0813 should have been calling, (much to the disgust of the 150 pax or so cooling their heels on the platform). Grrr.  >:(

I've heard an announcement at Bristol Temple Meads recently - even though no train came though  ::)

I don't remember the exact wording, but it is something along the lines of "May I have your attention please.  The next train passing through Platform 5 is not scheduled to stop.  Please stand well clear on the platform edge."

We get them all the time at Taplow the trouble is some of them announce non stop trains for platforms 3 and 4 but are actually for  mainline trains on 1/2.

Where no trains are allowed to stop as the tracks too high.
It's a software bug caused by trying to rectify another software bug which caused stopping trains diverted to the mains to be shown as a platform change and announced as stopping when in fact they run through because it's dangerous to board them with the height of the step.

It's attention to detail again.

The Ex-Wessex information system is still in use at former Wessex Stations.
I don't think I've ever heard Digital Doris announce a warning to stand back as Next Train is Not Due to Stop.

The pre work visits for the standard FGW information system has been carried out in the South West with Dayglow Orange paint sprayed on platforms.

I bet who ever sprayed measurements right on the platform Edge at Devonport, DIDN'T have line occupation, so is it more work for boys in ten gallon hats.

Can we look forward to a Mini Digger being used about 3 foot from the platform edge whilst trains are running?

Common sense would have solved this potential problem anyway.

Another Location that could use this is Bruton...!

Mainline route for Taunton and further south... Unsure of the linespeed there... but I certainly wouldn't stand the wrong side of the Yellow Line ;)

If people are going to ignore the yellow line warning until a train actually stops then they are completely liable for there actions (as far as i'm concerned)

The linespeed at Bruton is 90 or 100mph whereas it's 60 at Dawlish and Teignmouth stations. Whilst it may not seem like much of a difference, I suspect it's fairly obvious at Bruton from some distance that a HST isn't stopping. The same is probably true of stations between Brizzle and Taunton where there is a fairly consistent 100mph linespeed.

As has been mentioned, the system at Newton Abbot/Exeter is different to that at the ex-Wessex stations and the ex-Wessex system is prone to technical problems regularly.
