Title: Women Only Waiting Rooms??? Post by: JayMac on February 21, 2010, 21:39:55 Whilst checking out the facilities at Reading on the National Rail Enquiries website, I rolled my mouse over the 'seating' icon and this box popped up:
(http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt68/bignosemac/seating.jpg) Is there any station on the national network that still has an open 'Women Only' waiting room? Kinda pointless addition to the information if there isn't. Title: Re: Women Only Waiting Rooms??? Post by: johoare on February 21, 2010, 22:00:12 I've never seen one although maybe there are some around..
But, and I think, being female I can hopefully safely say this ;), shouldn't there also be men only waiting rooms to keep all things equal? ;D Title: Re: Women Only Waiting Rooms??? Title: Re: Women Only Waiting Rooms??? Post by: Phil on February 22, 2010, 13:20:04 I have some experience of visiting all three sets of restrooms* at various music venues around Britain, Europe and the USA in the course of my work as an events director and I have to say, I long ago ceased to be shocked at the state of any and all of them. Believe me, "ladies" are every bit as capable of graffiti and vandalism as men are!
Also, as far as I know Frinton on Sea still has ladies only waiting room at the station there. Update: A quick check of the database confirms it: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/fri/details.html There is also one (a women only waiting room) it seems in Stockport (Cheshire) (a First TransPennine station) http://www.tpexpress.co.uk/train-destinations/stockport/station-information.htm *Ladies, Gents & Disabled Title: Re: Women Only Waiting Rooms??? Post by: Tim on February 22, 2010, 13:32:35 I've no personal objection to them, but can they be legal in this day and age?

Title: Re: Women Only Waiting Rooms??? Post by: Btline on February 22, 2010, 13:53:27 Surely they must be staffed to prevent Men going in.
So why not just staff the normal waiting room, which would still have the desired effect. (as in no-one waiting alone) Can you imagine the uproars of sexism if there were men only rooms? ::) Title: Re: Women Only Waiting Rooms??? Title: Re: Women Only Waiting Rooms??? Post by: autotank on February 23, 2010, 00:17:08 There is a sign for a Women only waiting room at Cholsey I think.
Title: Re: Women Only Waiting Rooms??? Post by: Chris from Nailsea on February 23, 2010, 00:25:09 Hmm. The National Rail Enquiries page for Cholsey station facilities (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/cho/details.html) says,
Quote Station seating facilities First Class lounge No Seating area No Waiting Rooms Available Note Sheltered waiting room at platforms. During staffed hours only. Women-Only Waiting Room No ::) This page is printed from the "Coffee Shop" forum at http://gwr.passenger.chat which is provided by a customer of Great Western Railway.
