Title: Unusual train in Oxford sidings
Post by: IanL on February 01, 2010, 11:28:50
Sleeper carriages between a pair of 57xxxx units parked in sidings at Oxford this morning. Never seen one here before.

Rumours on the net that it was the sleepers forming the 0722 pad - oxf and return.  On FGW website was showing 3 coaches which would match with the three seating coaches that there are in the sleeper formation.  I must say they must be a bit desperate to do this though  :o

Confirmed it was the sleepers.  Very unusual.  Must be one of the workings of the year !!

I can confirm the 57's plus sleeper stock took the avoiding line at Didcot Parkway at 0820 this morning - so in the path of the 0722 PAD-OXF!  Wow, what a working.

I guess with several (4 or 5) HSTs out of action and with the Turbo refresh now starting at Reading depot, we may see more of these local-hauled 'specials' out of Paddington!

Worked back with the 09.01 Oxford to Padd. This is the first off peak service from Oxford so is usually quite busy. Wonder how much business they did in the berths!
