Ha...excellent, so it's them...remember the young lady who started making spoof announcements on LUL...and was sacked for her irreverence. Would rather hear a sexy Lady than a synth voice.
In York, a while back, we were blessed  with a cracking North American Lady announcer (mmm, must have been GNER days, come to think of it)...marvellously we got "Edinborrow"...but what the hell, at 7.15am she sounded so sexy.

OK I'll get my coat! :'(

One wonders if Phil used his 'disconnected and unemotional' tones to bag the lovely Elinor?

I like it! But since when has Phil been ON trains? I wish he was, whenever I'm away from a Ditra station I get Phil withdrawal symptoms... :P

Just get yourself to New Street then Btline...... just don't overdose!

BTW, I've got a Train Sim called BVE and one of the routes is a fictional West Midlands line, loosely modelled around New Street and even this has Phil Sayer announcements!

I've got it. (on my PC, which i hardly ever use) The ANNOYING thing is that it takes half an hour to get there from Redditch. I am literally dying of Phil Sayer Withdrawal syndrome...

Why on earth did they switch to Celia? :o

That wouldn't help - it's the voice that does it for me. :P

But I DO have an mp3 which i ripped off YouTube (the 2002 Southern service to Portsmouth Harbour and Bognor Regis). Oh dear, I really shouldn't admit this.... :-X

Interesting PA announcement from Phil Sayer I heard this evening (06/04/2011) at Swindon:

"The next train to arrive at platform 3 is the 2011 First Great Western service to London Paddington, calling at Didcot Parkway, Reading and London Paddington. Please note that this service is in reverse formation, First Class is at the rear of the train. A restaurant service is available toward the front of the train."

The mind boggled. A restaurant service in Standard Class on an ex Bristol TM service.....  ::) ???

Perhaps he was addressing First Class passengers.

If you'd waited, you might have heard a subsequent announcement for Standard Class passengers to the effect that "the caff's down the back end".

Indeed - a sad loss.

I like the Facebook page of the Sayer/Hamilton family (https://www.facebook.com/168690939830904/photos/a.232159166817414.63991.168690939830904/1147932928573362/?type=3&theater):

Quote
Phil Sayer - voice of reason, radio, and railways. A dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

We are sorry to announce that this service terminates here.

 :(

For me Phil Sayer will always be the voice of London Waterloo. Waiting for my train back to Dorset whilst Phil was nigh on constantly broadcasting all the many and varied departures with their long list of calling stations.

A sad loss  :(
