Hundreds of commuters have been experiencing "significant delays" after a man was struck by a train close to a Hampshire railway station.

The driver of the 0115 Portsmouth Harbour-to-Fratton train hit the man as it approached Portsmouth and Southsea railway station, Network Rail said.

Hampshire police attended the scene, along with British Transport police who are treating the death as unexplained.

Network Rail said all lines were reopened at about 0740 GMT.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "At 0120 GMT a local Portsmouth service train struck the body of a man in the Portsmouth and Southsea railway station area."
