Mr Allen , a police officer , decided to pop the question to his girlfriend , who now works as a railway conductor , while on a romantic break in Dartmouth , Devon. As a surprise he hired her favourite 1960s diesel engine and a driver for the day - so the couple could learn how to drive the train and so he could propose. Mr Allen had also arranged for railway staff at Okehampton station to hang a banner on the footbridge. (Note - while I am very pleased for the happy couple , there is no denying that its been a quiet day news - wise.....)
