Title: New style window destination labels Post by: IndustryInsider on December 15, 2009, 11:32:11 A new design for this timetable change. Anyone else seen them?
Far too small, and lacking in contrast making them far more difficult to read 'at a glance' like the old tried and tested design. Not impressed! Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: ChrisB on December 15, 2009, 11:33:30 Yup - already asked FGW for the reason behind the change (why change something that isn't broken?) and suggested they revert....
Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: John R on December 15, 2009, 12:03:39 Yes, that was my immediate thought. I'll mention it to someone in management on my daily commute.
Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: Super Guard on December 15, 2009, 12:14:37 I saw them yesterday - not impressed either.
There was an idea of getting a more sturdy/plastic type replacement that are kept on each set, and are therefore reused, produced once and not thrown away as they are now. Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: super tm on December 15, 2009, 17:07:36 Personally I think they are designed to go in the droplight windows. They fit just right even when the droplight is lowered. Thats were I put mine on the train from Cheltenham Spa.
Many years ago when I was a boy that is where they used to be. Reinventing the wheel is something we are quite good at ;D (Droplight - the window you lower to open the door) Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: 12hoursunday on December 15, 2009, 17:16:13 some vehicle actuall have a little cut out within the toilet window for window labels A bit bit cumbersome I reckon for a train prepairer to undo the little drop down door from within the toilet!

When first delivered - certainly on the East Coast route - HSTs actually had roller blinds in those displays in the toilet windows, like an old-fashioned bus destination display, but I think changes in stopping patterns for services and the sheer amount of time needed to go down a train setting them up soon put paid to them. I seem to remember my brother buying one of the reels from BR collectors' corner years ago, after they had been removed from the trains. Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: Mookiemoo on December 15, 2009, 18:29:26 They highlight the short platforms better than the old ones but I don't like them. Also it says "stations with short platforms are boxed" - these are not boxed they have been "highlightered"
Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: Btline on December 15, 2009, 21:29:36 Of course, if the HST refurb had been done fully, the HSTs would have external destination screens like on the demonstration model!
Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: ChrisB on December 16, 2009, 10:22:13 FGW are reconsidering, but the printers are off for Christmas & it is likely to be the middle of January before we get anything revised again,.....

Well, that's something. Though whoever designed/authorised the change in the first place should not be pleased with themselves! Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: ChrisB on December 16, 2009, 13:06:35 Especially as they have Customer Panels that ought to have been consulted prior to this change. We'd have picked it straight up....
Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: inspector_blakey on December 16, 2009, 14:55:49 Cue a rash of people collecting these window labels at the end of a journey...they could turn out to be rare antiques! ;)
Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: Chris from Nailsea on December 16, 2009, 17:06:38 (Droplight - the window you lower to open the door) Thanks, super tm: I've added it to our 'acronyms and abbreviations' list - even though, strictly, it isn't either! ;) Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: IndustryInsider on January 19, 2010, 10:39:02 Some new style labels are now in use. MUCH better than the December efforts, but still not as easy to read as the old design in my opinion.
Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: sorch on January 19, 2010, 15:13:41 To me it looks a lot easier to read (it is on the 1512 ex-PLY PAD-PNZ)
My memory of the old-old design is not all that great, but the new one looks a lot like that but with some of the text colour inverted. I don't know what was wrong with the old one, has white-on-blue fallen entirely out of vogue (apart from the bottom bit)? Title: Re: New style window destination labels Post by: ChrisB on January 19, 2010, 15:35:10 FGW wanted them more in their house style.
