Title: Where was I this morning?
Post by: inspector_blakey on December 07, 2009, 03:24:44
A picture quiz that's definitely not in FGW territory...

Three pics taken at one location - can anyone work out where? Graham and Jo at least I suspect will be in with a shout at this one, but I'll be interested to see who else can figure it out! From the point of view of detective work, picture 2 is probably the most useful...  ;)

Trenton, New Jersey?

Although the orange timetable in pic 1 would suggest somewhere on the Raritan Valley line, but that line ain't electrified as far as I can ascertain.

@$%* me sideways that was quick!  :o Yes indeed Trenton, NJ (which unkind people describe as being the armpit of New Jersey, which itself they claim is the armpit of the US). It's where you change trains from SEPTA to NJ Transit on the way to New York City if you're too cheap to take Amtrak. Those are their new Bombardier double-deck cars (which are pretty pleasant inside, certainly better than the ancient p*ss-boxes SEPTA cart you around in) hauled by a Bombardier ALP-46.

The timetable is actually red for the Northeast Corridor line, just the sunlight making it appear orange.

I also spotted what might be my contender for silliest railway sign ever at Metuchen, NJ (wish I'd been able to get a picture but couldn't). The end of the platform is punctuated by the platform ending (obviously...), a fence to blank off the platform end, and a sign saying...wait for it... "Warning: End of Platform".

No s**t!

Forgive me for spoiling others opportunities to guess. ;D It were 4am here and I were bored, so I went to NJ Transit's website. After dismissing the Raritan Line for not being electrified I took a wild punt at Trenton without further Googling. Figured red is close to orange so plumped for Trenton as a wild guess!!

The arm pit of America is actually bay city michigan - not only is that part of the coast shaped like an arm pit, the city sucks.  makes Trenton look uptown.

Only thing it ever produced was Madonna

Hmm. I think it might have competition from Camden, NJ: just across the Delaware river from Philly, it has repeatedly been named America's most murderous city (although only managed second place this year, God knows what number 1 must be like). Its most famous son is probably Walt Whitman - probably not quite in the Madonna fame league but pretty eminent all the same.
