Title: Massive beams transported by road from Cornwall to Cheshire (04/12/2009) Post by: Chris from Nailsea on December 04, 2009, 21:31:15 From the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cornwall/8394296.stm):
Quote Two massive concrete beams are set to be transported out of Cornwall by road on Friday. The 133-tonne structures have been made by a Cornish firm and will form part of a new railway bridge in Cheshire. Workers at Cornish Concrete Products, near Bissoe, made the beams, and say they are the heaviest manufactured concrete items to leave Cornwall. The beams will be attached to a new steel bridge before the whole structure is lifted into place over Christmas. Concrete beams! I see now!
Stupid question perhaps, but if they're destined for a railway bridge, wouldn't it have made more sense to trainsport them by rail?
