Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Mookiemoo on December 01, 2009, 21:41:23 are you secretly reginald perrin ;D Beginning to think I may be the real life incarnation Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: 6 OF 2 redundant adjunct of unimatrix 01 on December 01, 2009, 21:45:35 well abit of advice.... its wrong time of year to run to the beach and dive in the sea,
Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Mookiemoo on December 14, 2009, 18:45:02 And again - 1750 activated line side equipment
Left it at Reading and on 1811 to Camarthan - need to go to ludlow anyway so much of a muchness tonight - actually I think this will get me in slightly earlier! just more dosh. Does anyone know what became of this train? Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: coachflyer on December 14, 2009, 18:59:38 When I was at Reading the report was that it had tripped the hot axel box detector at Maidenhead.
They then terminated pad bound HST on plat 8 and swopped it with the failed hst. Looks like it is running about 60 mins down now. Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Mookiemoo on December 14, 2009, 19:02:37 When I was at Reading the report was that it had tripped the hot axel box detector at Maidenhead. They then terminated pad bound HST on plat 8 and swopped it with the failed hst. Looks like it is running about 60 mins down now. So I made the right decision on the fly - assuming due to congestion it gets held up it wont Hereford for the 213x unofficial connection and I suspect would miss the 2117 official connection. I am reasonably sure I will be in ludlow by 2105! At the princely cost of ^55. But if its 60 late, it does beg the question what the 1822 cathedrals express is going to do.......I know the 1751 has been terminated. Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Mookiemoo on December 14, 2009, 19:03:47 When I was at Reading the report was that it had tripped the hot axel box detector at Maidenhead. I'm sure this has been asked before........but what does one of these detectors do to the uninitiated and why are they needed? Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: grahame on December 14, 2009, 19:11:29 ... but what does one of these detectors do to the uninitiated ... It does nothing to the initiated (or the uninitiated) either. ;D My understanding is that they sense wheel bearings that are overheating and send a warning to the signalperson so that the train can be stopped and it can be dealt with. Hot bearings tend to seize up, which isn't a terribly good thing to happen at 125! Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Mookiemoo on December 14, 2009, 19:15:20 Well this has to be the stupidest planning decision to the outside observer - albeit I'm sure there are operational reasons.
1722 PAD - HFD - departs reading 1848 1822 PAD - HFD - departs reading 1859 Both running through to HFD So you're going to have TWO full HST's following each other up the cotswolds line within 10 minutes or so of each other. Yet the NRES is showing the 1822 will arrive on time - if that happens I'll buy a nice chewy hat and eat it with ketchup. Meanwhile they terminated the 1751 which seemed to go through on time at oxford. Surely it would have made more sense to extend the 1751 to HFD, terminate the 1722 at Reading and then run the 1822 through as planned? Or is that too much like common sense? Note - its I don't even now where they are going to park both of them at HFD! There is not enough time between them, if NRES is to believed to get the 1722 in, turned around and back onto the return platform before the 1822 arrives! Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: coachflyer on December 14, 2009, 19:26:02 The 1722 service forms the last train back to London while the 1822 runs empty through to Bristol.
There will be at least 15 mins between them as that is approximately the running time on the single line between Ledbury and Hereford. More than enough time to get the 1722 down the sidings. Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Mookiemoo on December 14, 2009, 19:27:06 The 1722 service forms the last train back to London while the 1822 runs empty through to Bristol. So as I suspected, NRES is lying Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Mookiemoo on December 14, 2009, 20:11:05 Knew it would not work - 1722 being terminated at WOS - I presume to form the 2101 from WOF.
so Glad I made a correct decision for once - with the 1822 now running late, a 2225 arrival at ludlow would be doubtful, she says smugly after getting through pontypool Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: ChrisB on December 15, 2009, 10:03:05 Well this has to be the stupidest planning decision to the outside observer - albeit I'm sure there are operational reasons. 1722 PAD - HFD - departs reading 1848 1822 PAD - HFD - departs reading 1859 Both running through to HFD So you're going to have TWO full HST's following each other up the cotswolds line within 10 minutes or so of each other. Meanwhile they terminated the 1751 which seemed to go through on time at oxford. I feel for those on that 1722.....as was I until Reading. We came to a halt justr outside Reading (nothing uusual there....) and sat, and sat.....a few realised that there where no HSTs running on the upline beside us, and started to wonder....no announcements for 12 minutes, then we're told the driver is coming 'through' the train checking.....it turns out he was outside the train, inspecting the axles....30 minutes down, it pulled into platform 9 and I alighted & left it. But we got only three announcvements, and the third was as we started to move. Yet another HST dies....seems as though FGWs maintenance is slipping.... The 1751 was a 3car turbo last night, so couldn't work to HFD, and getting three trains down the Cotswolds nigh impossible. What I weant to know is what arrangements were put in place at HFD for any passengers aiming to catch that 2153 return to Oxford. You don't generally turn up early enough to be put in a cab to Worcester in time to catch it, so I guess the Hereford taxis did well?..... Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Mookiemoo on December 15, 2009, 10:05:34 . Since this is the one I have been getting most often recently, this disturbs me on the first day of the new timetable (work day)The 1751 was a 3car turbo last night, so couldn't work to HFD, and getting three trains down the Cotswolds nigh impossible. Is this going to regularly be turbostuted I wonder? Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: ChrisB on December 15, 2009, 10:08:31 No idea - the FGW website was referring to a train fault (i.e. another failed HST) - they seem to be on the increase lately.
Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Super Guard on December 15, 2009, 12:25:24 Another poorly HST yesterday - 14:00 PNZ-PAD was cancelled at Plymouth arriving ~90 late after a weak compressor meant they kept losing air and the breaks kept kicking in all the way from Penzance, and running on 1 powercar afaik.
Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: ChrisB on December 15, 2009, 12:26:17 I think that's the one that then becomes the 1751.....
Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Mookiemoo on December 15, 2009, 12:31:34 Well the 1751 up to this week was always a 2+7 or a mini buffet - if it is indeed the PNZ-PAD train then one would hope for the passengers sake its a 2+8
Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: Steve44 on December 15, 2009, 13:14:59 I think that's the one that then becomes the 1751..... If you're referring to the 14:00 ex PNZ i'm pretty sure that theres no physical way that could be true... seeing as it doesn't arrive into Paddington until 19:24 :p Title: Re: It's me - I'm jinxed Post by: ChrisB on December 15, 2009, 13:20:55 You're right!
I was thinking of an earlier PNZ arrival.... So that's two HSTs down in less than 24 hours!
