Title: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: James Vertigan on November 30, 2009, 18:36:46 Have any FGW stations been decorated for Christmas yet?
The only station I've seen so far with a tree in it is Liverpool Street (not an FGW station, I know!) - they've got a tree with just lights on, no decorations, which went up on 24th November - and they don't seem to be sponsored by Ebay this year! Not seen one in Paddington so far, but maybe in the next few days - unless they decided not to have one this year (credit crunch & all!) which would be sad... Title: Re: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: Chris from Nailsea on November 30, 2009, 20:39:57 Christmas trees are an elfin safety issue: it's official. ::)
From the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/8381626.stm): Quote Council axes real Christmas tree A council has axed its traditional town centre fir Christmas tree and put up a ^14,000 fake one instead. Borough of Poole said that the tree was safer, sturdier and cheaper in the long run, and that a Norwegian fir tree could topple over in strong winds. Title: Re: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: Timmer on November 30, 2009, 20:46:06 The FGW website has been decorated!
Title: Re: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: Chris from Nailsea on November 30, 2009, 20:59:13 Hmm.
Interestingly, while FGW have now managed to find the Christmas decorations for their website, they haven't bothered to update their 'news' page (http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/NewsList.aspx) since 23 July 2009 ... ::) Title: Re: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: devon_metro on November 30, 2009, 21:02:32 Nor do they advertise when I can book advance tickets up to!
Title: Re: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: Timmer on November 30, 2009, 21:02:52 Hmm. Looks like the same decorations as last year which would have just meant flicking a switch and there they are.Interestingly, while FGW have now managed to find the Christmas decorations for their website, they haven't bothered to update their 'news' page (http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/NewsList.aspx) since 23 July 2009 ... ::) Title: Re: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: 6 OF 2 redundant adjunct of unimatrix 01 on November 30, 2009, 21:15:22 i was just answering james's question and trying to add abit of a quiz i will just shut up to cheer u up

"You can book your tickets on all First Great Western Monday to Friday services until Wednesday 10 February 2010, Saturday services until 6 February and 7 February for Sunday services. " Title: Re: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: devon_metro on November 30, 2009, 21:49:35 Whoops, how didn't I see that!
Title: Re: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: James Vertigan on December 02, 2009, 09:06:50 Christmas tree is up in Paddington as of this morning... seems to be the same style as the one in Liverpool Street (ie no decorations, just lights), so it would seem that is the National Rail style this year.
Title: Re: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: Chris from Nailsea on December 02, 2009, 23:26:47 Fake Christmas trees (see my post above) are not particularly popular, it seems. ::) From the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/8391264.stm):
Quote Fake Christmas tree 'vandalised' A ^14,000 fake Christmas tree which replaced a Dorset town centre's traditional fir tree due to health and safety concerns has been damaged. The council believes parts of the 30ft (10m) cone in Poole, which is decorated with thousands of lights, were ripped off by vandals overnight on Monday. But it comes as strong winds have also battered the south coast. Shoppers have said the controversial tree, funded by local businesses, looks more like a "witch's hat". Borough of Poole said the damage is currently being looked at by the the tree's installation team. Dorset Police said it believed several people could have climbed the tree and ripped off artificial layers. CCTV footage was being assessed. Title: Re: Stations decorated for Christmas Post by: Chris from Nailsea on December 04, 2009, 21:17:31 A further development on the fake Christmas tree story, from the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/8396075.stm):
Quote Fake Christmas tree to be removed A fake Christmas tree which some residents in a Dorset town described as looking like a witch's hat is to be replaced after a vandal attack. The ^14,000 30ft (10m) cone in Falkland Square in Poole was a replacement for the town centre's traditional fir tree. Earier this week vandals ripped off the lights it had been decorated with. Dolphin Shopping Centre has now donated a traditional 30ft (10m) Christmas tree. The cone, criticised heavily by shoppers, is to be replaced on Tuesday. Dorset Police said it believed several people could have climbed the damaged tree - funded by businesses - and ripped off artificial layers. The force has been examining CCTV footage.
