Title: CIS announcements at Reading on Platforms 4a and 4b............bizarre
Post by: Mookiemoo on November 13, 2009, 22:24:02
Have noticed - when getting off whatever my arrival is in REading, the scrilling LED board says.....

"Please stand away from the platform edge, the next train is not scheduled to stop at this station"

eeerrr.... its a bay platform - if it doesnt stop it will be headlines on the six oclock news............

Why?

The CIS works based on the reporting number of the train in question (e.g. 1A23, 2P34, etc), so if it doesn't recognize this as a train it's expecting then the "please stand clear" announcement is activated. I was assuming that in your case this would be for empty stock workings running into the bay platforms (which will run as a class 5 headcode, e.g. 5B67) but that obviously doesn't apply since you got off the trains in question.

So I'm at a bit of a loss. Sorry.

No - it seems to be in lieu of the next train terminates

I have gotten off a Redhill to Reading train and seen the "next train is not due to stop here"

Followed by the announcement of the later departure of the train I got on....

Platform side of 4A/4B SEEMS  to show that as standard.........which is a bit scary

It could also be to stop the peasants piling onto it before they decide what train they going to send it out as.

I've noticed the same thing at the other end of Platform 4, on Platforms 2 and 3 I think it is, the bays where the Basingstoke trains pull in.

First time I heard the announcement about an incoming train not stopping there, a few weeks ago, I actually ran up over the bridge and down the other side so I could both watch the impending disaster unfold and yet be safely as far away as possible, like a scaredy cat!

Turned out to be a broken down DMU they were parking there for the time being.
