I'm the first to criticise when things go wrong so I have to say......

thursday October 19th, 2009 - EVERYTHING ran to time or early.

0626 WOS to RDG - on time, arrives at RDG early (was almost early enough to catch the Shalford train but sadly not)
0834 RDG to Wokingham - on time

1751 RDG to WOS - left EDG 4 late but we're at Evesham on time and looking to be within tolerances at worst.


Shame about the cab I'd booked for 1655 to take me to wokingham for the 1717 not showing up until 1715 after it being booked at 1400!  25 quid cab fare to Reading instead of 10 to wokingham.....   >:(  (I'm trying to get home early as its him indoors birfday)

I guess its too much to hope that I could have just ONE day where NOTHING goes wrong!

I can only suggest that, so unrestrained was your excitement, you may have made a slight mistake on the date?

Good to hear that things went well for you yesterday. I must admit that your long distance commuting has me in awe. I thought 40 years or so commuting from SLough/Taplow to London/Reading was quite enough for anyone.

It's good when everything goes right but it takes an aweful lot of work to get that happen. It's all attention to detail, maintenance of track and signals, rolling stock, staff all arriving on time for their shifts and trains crews getting their trains ready on time, then running smartly to keep time and of course no acts of god, lorry bridge strikes or jumpers.

It's also, although they probably won't admit it, exteremely boring for frontline/control staff, no stock to rearrange, no special stops to be added, no train crews to be rerostered etc.
