Title: Pontypridd Post by: Taffchap on September 21, 2009, 14:58:47 Now that Abercynon has been sorted with reinstatement of the 'down' side and the installation of scissors crossovers at the north-end, does anyone know if the there are any plans to sort out Pontypridd? Is there any real reason why the 'down' side of the island platform cannot be restored to use? Haven't been down that way for a long time. What a mess they made of that station in the 1970/71 rationalisation! The reason given at the time for closing the down side was the cost of maintaining the diamond crossings of the down Rhondda over the up Merthyr/Aberdare due to the wear and tear of the MGRs. Well, they've put one in at Abercynon!
Title: Re: Pontypridd Post by: John R on September 21, 2009, 19:42:44 This is a bit "out of area", but I believe there are plans to build a south facing bay with the Cardiff Area Resignalling in the next 4 years (along with one at Caerphilly). Other than that, I don't believe there are any other plans to remodel Pontypridd. Why, why, I don't know, but it's not unusual for it to take many years to put right the damage of the years of rationalisation.
