Worcester Shrub Hill station receives security awards from city's Labour MP

Worcester Labour MP Michael Foster visited the city^s Shrub Hill station to talk with staff and present a series of security awards.

London Midland commercial director Alex Hynes told Mr Foster that both Worcester Shrub Hill and Worcester Foregate Street had recently received accreditation under the Secure Stations Scheme.

Under the terms of the scheme stations are assessed for station, staff and passenger security by the British Transport Police.

Shrub Hill station^s three car parks ^ Elgar, Horseshoe and Main ^ have also been accredited with Park Mark Safer Parking status.

Mr Foster said: "Having secure car parks serving our rail network deters crime and encourages my constituents to let the train take the strain. There is nothing worse than returning from a train journey to find your car has been broken into, damaged or even stolen.
^Investment like this by London Midland will be welcomed by local people here in Worcester and further help reduce the fear of crime."
Mr Hynes said: ^This was a good opportunity to show Mr Foster the developments at Shrub Hill and we^re delighted he took the time to visit and learn more about us. We realise how important security and a pleasant environment are to passengers, so these awards are recognition of the progress being made.^

So why does one still feel sllightly uneasy at shrub late at night

It may be because the very first time I went to get a train there at 6am, I saw two cars broken into

Are they bringing back the Womens' only waiting room, or will it be for all?

If you are on the 'Up' platform then there's still no waiting room facilities at all. The only sign of them re-opening was the removal of wooden hoardings which was replaced with metal ones a few months back. The facilities look refurbished and nice shiny colourful tiles can clearly be seen. Can anyone remember when it was last open? Surely not another winter of frostbite can beckon for passengers?
