Title: On the buses Post by: grahame on September 15, 2009, 19:19:50 Can you identify where each of these buses is ... the majority are 'in our area' and they all have some sort of rail or railway connection(s) involved.

Title: Re: On the buses Post by: inspector_blakey on September 15, 2009, 19:56:23 Is 1 Honeybourne? Pretty sure 4 is Bath. And 6 looks vaguely like it might be York (at least, I know the local services there are run by First).
Title: Re: On the buses Post by: grahame on September 15, 2009, 20:00:45 The fourth picture, with "Private" and "Bus Station" destinations and an FGW train in the background is, indeed, Bath. But the first picture is not Honeybourne, and the sixth is not York.

Title: Re: On the buses Post by: Timmer on September 15, 2009, 20:04:53 5 York
6 Salisbury 2 Melksham Title: Re: On the buses Post by: Timmer on September 15, 2009, 20:07:12 3 Greater Manchester, Denton? Remember your visit up there a while back.
Title: Re: On the buses Post by: Btline on September 15, 2009, 20:13:46 Actually, it was a proper guess! :P
I knew I'd seen those houses before, it just happened to be Honeybourne rather than Melksham. ::) And looking at number 2, those are the Melksham houses! :D Title: Re: On the buses Post by: Timmer on September 15, 2009, 20:26:00 Actually, it was a proper guess! :P I know it was :) and yes number 2 is Melksham.I knew I'd seen those houses before, it just happened to be Honeybourne rather than Melksham. ::) And looking at number 2, those are the Melksham houses! :D Title: Re: On the buses Post by: rogerw on September 15, 2009, 20:28:03 1. is Westbury
Title: Re: On the buses Post by: grahame on September 15, 2009, 20:40:14 1. is Westbury Yes, 1 is Westbury 5 York 6 Salisbury 2 Melksham 2 is indeed Melksham, and 5 is indeed York. 3 Greater Manchester, Denton? Remember your visit up there a while back. Yes, No. 3 is Denton. Which just leaves no. 6 ... for which I am saying there is a railway connection, but it's less so that the others and some may argue the point. Title: Re: On the buses Post by: inspector_blakey on September 15, 2009, 21:09:01 Sorry, can't count, I meant 5 for York, not 6. Clown. :'(
Title: Re: On the buses Post by: grahame on September 15, 2009, 21:21:32 Sorry, can't count, I meant 5 for York, not 6. Clown. :'( I wondered ... but having just said that 1 wasn't Melksham (when 2 was), I didn't feel I should/could apply different rules. 6 ... remains ... unidentified. Title: Re: On the buses Post by: JayMac on September 15, 2009, 22:26:11 6. Gosport
But what is the railway 'link'? I suspect it is rather tenuous.... Title: Re: On the buses Post by: inspector_blakey on September 15, 2009, 23:51:32 At a guess it's because the bus service there looks like it's operated (at least in part) by First. But I'm ready to be corrected...
Title: Re: On the buses Post by: JayMac on September 16, 2009, 00:02:13 Gosport is in my copy of the Avantix CD, can't get any fares to/from GOP though!
Title: Re: On the buses Post by: grahame on September 16, 2009, 05:57:26 ... the majority are 'in our area' and they all have some sort of rail or railway connection(s) involved ... The final one is Gosport and, yes, I will agree that the rail connection is quite tenuous. Others may not agree, but I see Gosport as a road / rail connection all be it via ferry from Portsmouth Harbour station; part of a far better integrtation of road and rail than you see at many other places. London to Lee-on-Solent and you'll take SWT to Portsmouth Harbour, transfer on the ferry, and get the bus onwards. Title: Re: On the buses Post by: JayMac on September 16, 2009, 09:43:47 Gosport's interchange facilities are quite good, with a bus station next door to each ferry terminal, and a mainline station on the Pompey side. Integrated rail tickets are another matter though. I've yet to find any that include Gosport Ferry.
Title: Re: On the buses Post by: paul7575 on September 16, 2009, 10:54:47 During the Portsmouth resignalling, unusually the Gosport Ferry was used as a rail replacement service one Sunday morning, because buses couldn't get through Portsmouth due to the 'Great South Run'.
Pax for the Harbour station were bustituted from Fareham to Gosport for the ferry...
