Post by: grahame on September 07, 2009, 16:09:38 The clearance between the loco and the platform looks very limited. Is this the Knorre Bremse Hydraulic Platform which retracts from the train when it's about to leave ... currently under test on the Island of Sodor:

Another couple of pictures - one with a fairly useful clue ;) : (http://imgcash4.imageshack.us/img198/7636/quiz075.jpg) (http://imgcash4.imageshack.us/img30/4263/quiz068.jpg) Title: Re: Holiday train journey - for only ^2 return! Title: Re: Holiday train journey - for only ^2 return! Post by: Chris from Nailsea on September 07, 2009, 16:49:52 Well, Bristol is involved, in a way, devon_metro - but it's an island location, remember! ;)

Post by: grahame on September 07, 2009, 17:06:25 Well, Bristol is involved, in a way, devon_metro - but it's an island location, remember! ;) I wondered about Alderney - who's railway web sites bills it as "The Only Railway in the Channel islands" ... http://www.alderneyrailway.com/index.htm ... but looking at their site, they've still only got the one diesel shunter, plus another on loan, and tube coaches. What other unlikely candidates are there, and with a Bristol connection - Lundy? Tristan da Cunha? Anglesey? Isle of Dogs ;) Title: Re: Holiday train journey - for only ^2 return! Post by: Chris from Nailsea on September 07, 2009, 17:19:56 Hmmm. Alderney folk are being rather cheeky if they are claiming that they have the only railway in the Channel Islands ... ;D
Title: Re: Holiday train journey - for only ^2 return! Post by: inspector_blakey on September 08, 2009, 01:02:41 The Pallot Working Steam Museum, Jersey, perchance?
OK, OK, I cheated, got the number of the Peckett off the works plate then stuck it into the UK heritage railways database to find its location. I'd actually never heard of the Pallot Steam Museum before! Title: Re: Holiday train journey - for only ^2 return! Post by: Chris from Nailsea on September 08, 2009, 11:33:35 Yes, it's at the Pallot Steam Museum (http://www.pallotmuseum.co.uk/railway/pages/locomotive_2/index.htm) in Jersey. The Bristol connection is that the engine was built by Peckett & Sons Ltd in Bristol in 1952. ;)
I've no problem with folk doing a bit of 'research' - that's why I offered you the fourth picture, after all! The museum does seem to be a lesser known attraction - but it's well worth a visit, if you're in the island. C. ;) :D ;D Title: Re: Holiday train journey - for only ^2 return! Post by: grahame on September 09, 2009, 16:51:14 How far can you go for your 2 pounds, Chris?
Title: Re: Holiday train journey - for only ^2 return! Post by: Rogang on September 09, 2009, 20:46:05 And I trust you paid in a proper ^1 NOTE! (If you have any left over after visiting the island, you would be surprised how many bank-note collectors would buy it off you for ^1.50, even though the Jersey notes are issued in their thousands!) (BTW I lived in Jersey for 15 years up to 2004 - imagine a rail-loving person living in railway exile for so long!)
Title: Re: Holiday train journey - for only ^2 return! Post by: Chris from Nailsea on September 09, 2009, 21:24:39 We did indeed pay by cash - the museum doesn't accept credit / debit cards - and I donated our remaining ^1 notes to the charity box for the RNLI, at the ferry terminal in Jersey, on our way home!
