Title: Teignmouth 4th and 5th September
Post by: devonian on August 22, 2009, 08:51:48
Ok - so after 9 hours of queueing, I have tickets to see Muse at Teignmouth Den on the 4th September. There is no way I am driving but getting the train from NTA is an option. Given that a lot of people are staying in TOrbay, I think the trains will be busy. Does anyone know if there will be extra trains laid on?

As an aside to a different topic, the queue was delayed by people paying by card that took at least 5 mins to process compared to cash which was about 30 seconds.

I know this isn't going to answer your question, and hopefully someone else will, but I am SO jealous you're seeing Muse. I didn't manage to get tickets for the O2 and Teignmouth is just a bit too far from Maidenhead for me to be able to go to that one  :)

FGW dont normally lay on extra trains down here, apart from The Dawlish carnival. How many people are they expecting? I'll try and make sure I'm not working!

It's miles from Maidenhead! They'll probably be doing the festival circuit next year I imagine with a new album out so you might be able to see them then.

They've sold 10,000 tickets for each night. A good amount will be coming from Teignmouth and Shaldon but accomodation there is all but gone now so Torquay, Dawlish and Exeter are starting to get booked up. There are coaches from 'major' cities and out of town parking. I could swear blind that I saw it printed somewhere that extra trains would be laid on but I can't find it now which is why I was asking - it could just have been my imagination in pangs of excitement  ;D

"The Herald Express" claims extra trains are being laid on.

Oh, btw - the Teignmouth station cafe will be open for 24 hours ;)

Oh I know, but I still seriously considered it... I've seen them twice before and they are just brilliant. Enjoy  :)

There will indeed be extra trains: from the Herald Express (http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/entertainment/Resort-prepares-busiest-weekend/article-1282322-detail/article.html) -

Quote
Train company First Great Western has announced additional services to ferry fans away from the town.

It has held off ongoing engineering works for the weekend.

There will be 10 services running after 10pm until after midnight.

I am also rather jealous, wanted tickets for the o2 Arena but no such luck. But as with Jo have seen them twice before, but that really isn't enough :P

Read a reply from Teignbridge District Council to a query and apparantly there are extra trains - with the last one leaving sometime after midnight. Timetable will be released soon. No indication of destinations yet though.

I predict the CDF-TAU loco hauled set will be put in to use in Devon for this event.

Looks like there may be trouble finding crew for these extra trains!  :D

I predict the CDF-TAU loco hauled set will be put in to use in Devon for this event.

Barton Hill drivers won't do that, nor is there a way of servicing the set over night.

I rather suspect that it will be an HST and pacer operation. The 1633/1733/1833 from London all provide stock into the region which then goes ECS to Laira.

From what I've been hearing this morning, staff/management relations will have to improve if volunteer's are wanted.

Just been informed that this is to be the fgw loco set. I'm sure they can find one Link 1 man to do the job!

Despite what the local papers have said, FGW is not running extra servives - just strengthening those that we already have. I have had to advise our Customer Services people of this several times in the past few days, so there must be a fair few enquiries!

I've been searching FGW tickets website to see if they come up and a new service has appeared. 2347 Teignmouth to Newton Abbot (not sure full route). This wasn't there before.

Well, concert was awesome and train service wasn't bad either!

Was very well organised at Teignmouth with extra services to Newton Abbot - although when the train pulled in it was shut up as empty stock. Poor guard hadn't been given any paperwork about it being a passenger service. Apart from that delay though, it went well. A later service to Paignton would have helped a lot of people but not as easy to do as NTA I guess.

Given there was only about 2 weeks notice for this - well done!

Nearly wrecked the morning service though......

As virtually no trains were back at the depot before 02.00 it was "play catch-up" for the rest of the night. The depot staff played a blinder and it all got out (05.18 Paignton arrived in the platform at 05.15- but hey it wasn't late!).
