Unsurprisingly Bath councillors approved the Bus Rapid Transport scheme after the third time of asking:

Councillors voted by seven votes to five to approve a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and a proposal to double the size of the city^s Newbridge park and ride site.

The application was the final piece in the puzzle of the government funded ^50 million-plus Bath Transportation Package, which also includes development of a new park and ride site at Bathampton Meadows and extension of existing park and ride sites at Odd Down and Lansdown.

A council report into last night^s application said officials at the Department for Transport regarded the BRT as ^integral^ to the Bath Transportation Package as a whole and they would not be willing to continue to fund the package without the BRT.
