Title: I predict a chaos in WOS due to rail replacement bus route...... Post by: Mookiemoo on July 19, 2009, 15:31:16 If what I saw today is anything to go by.
Assuming the bus is going down London Road from Evesham then there are two routes to the station. The obvious one takes you into town, down city walls road, past the retail park and into shrub hill. The SAT navs and cars often use Wyldes Lane and Midlands road which cuts off the centre of town. Now, the entrance to Wyldes lane says words to the effect of "unsuitable for big **** off vehicles". So, having ran some errands, and with the M5 being banjaxed this afternoon I decided to head home via the west route which took me past shrub hill and down said route. What did I meet trying to come up the lane - a rail replacement bus. This route is so narrow that if cars are parked on one side (and they always are) then its a struggle to get two cars past each other even mounting the curb. The bus would just about fit. So mexican stand off ensued as I'm gobsmacked that the bus even tried it. As driver is getting a little irritated I tried to work out where I could move to - the only option was literally to drive along the pavement - not half on and half off - actually ON the pavement to get past him. However what did amuse me, is in my rearview as I went past, a rail replacement bus coming down the lane heading TO Evesham. I didnt hang around to see how the hell they negotiated that one! I do hope this was a temporary aberration and that is NOT the offical bus route. Otherwise god help the poor passengers! Title: Re: I predict a chaos in WOS due to rail replacement bus route...... Surprised though, the bus companies are local and the drivers should know how and where to drive. I was in Morton yesterday and and it all seemed very slick. I was there for around 1 hour and there were 30 to 40 passengers and about 8 buses all I think Astons of Worcester. With regard to working on the track, it seemed all very quiet. I haven't been over to Chipping Campden this weekend (may have a look tomorrow, since I have a day off work), but I suspect you would find that there is some pretty serious work going on at the tunnel, since they have 12,000 tonnes of material to shift out of it. I did find some activity today while passing Ascott-under-Wychwood - see the redoubling thread for a link to a picture.
