Title: Network Rail awards Post by: Chris from Nailsea on July 15, 2009, 22:19:01 From the New Civil Engineer (http://www.nce.co.uk/news/business/balfour-beatty-named-network-rails-supplier-of-the-year/5205204.article):
Quote Balfour Beatty named Network Rail's Supplier of the Year Balfour Beatty was named Network Rail^s supplier of the year at the rail operator^s first annual Partnership Awards ceremony last night. Balfour Beatty also picked up the safety award for its work carried out 120m above the Firth of Forth while refurbishing the Forth rail bridge. Birse Rail won in the environmental sustainability category for emergency embankment stabilisation at Stoke Gifford using recycled ballast that had to be delivered to a site in the heart of a residential district. Community engagement award went to the Severnside Community Rail Partnership and First Great Western; good lineside neighbour winner was Volkerfitzpatrick; and May Gurney won the heritage award for strengthening and refurbishment of Newcastle^s High Level Bridge. Edit note: my emphasis in italics for those awards with local involvement. Well deserved for the improvements on the Severn Beach Line, although Bristol City Council also deserve credit for stumping up some of the costs involved in improving the service.
