1. Always get on the "train" side of the tracks.
2. If not possible, always check the timetable for service trains, if anything is running late, try and make it "possible"
3. Never happened to me by doing this ................ YET !!

At 1:19 on that clip - classic quote: "So those people on the down line were right after all?"

 ;D ;D

It's a steam train. Why not "drive miles" to a heritage line, where you can photograph, video and record them as much as you like. (or was it this specific train?)

Suppose they should have waited on the other platform! ::)

From your profile photo moon, I guess you'd've been happy with a pic of the 67 at the rear!  ;) ;)  :)

The flip-side for any 159 spotters who may have been out that morning at Brookwood. Here is a video of the SWT 159 being partially obscured by the passing Tornado.  ;D ;D

Railway photography has always involved a certain amount of serendipidy.

I have often heard people saying I was lucky with that shot, 5 minutes before it was bucketing down but it cleared and sun came out just in time or 5 minutes after the heavens opened. Or just before or after and it would have been obscured by another train as in this case.

What they don't tell you about is the hundreds of mediocre shots they've taken when the sun didn't come out or the rain didn't stop or another train did get in the way.

I saw this happen to a poor bloke stood in the rain at Worle.  I felt sorry for him... I suppose I could have reassured him by saying it would have been a crap pic anyway because of the rain.

Happened before when I was at St. Davids, loads of people on platform 5 ready to watch a steam special leave platform 4, just as it does, a XC HST comes trundling up 5, blocking the view... I shouldn't laugh, but I did.. lots  ;D ;D ;D

That's what I thought! I enjoy the railway and train travel. But I can't see the point in spotting. I would have rather been in the 159 (or the steam service) looking out at the countryside enjoying the ride.

Same here. I'm an unashamed line basher, however not to the extent that I have to travel every loop, curve etc. And just one direction will do fine. I'm more for watching the world go by and discovering new destinations. We have a great rail network in this country (well most parts) and it is still the most civilised way to travel long distances.

Well, not knowing to what you refer, the answer would have to be no. Is it something to do with that 'triangle' thingy oop north?

Oooh, you live and learn! I have travelled over that chord. And I've always wondered who Dr Day was and why he got a junction named after him. Rhubarb as a miracle cure-all eh? As long as it's not used as a suppository.....

And to sort of cross-pollenate with another thread I'm active on tonight......shouldn't the junction sign be "Dr Day's Junction"? Or are we in the great Barons Court/Earl's Court debate?
