It's a steam train. Why not "drive miles" to a heritage line, where you can photograph, video and record them as much as you like. (or was it this specific train?) I have often heard people saying I was lucky with that shot, 5 minutes before it was bucketing down but it cleared and sun came out just in time or 5 minutes after the heavens opened. Or just before or after and it would have been obscured by another train as in this case. What they don't tell you about is the hundreds of mediocre shots they've taken when the sun didn't come out or the rain didn't stop or another train did get in the way. At least my time on a train is productive in terms of finance! and my interst in fizzix I kow unit numbers etc only when it benefits me - I know a 166 I can go to wither end, I know a 165 is shit, I know desiro is ok with CCTV - etc etc etc I know a 158 I use the whole table but on a 175 I dont! I'm an unashamed line basher, however not to the extent that I have to travel every loop, curve etc. And just one direction will do fine. I'm more for watching the world go by and discovering new destinations. We have a great rail network in this country (well most parts) and it is still the most civilised way to travel long distances.
