Title: Re: Roof Collapse At Truro Station Post by: RailCornwall on July 03, 2009, 22:36:18 Surely the potential issue with tickets should be highlighted on NR and FGW websites. I don't see anything mentioned on either. Haven't tried but I'd hope the option to collect internet purchases from the machine has been blocked on the ticketing sites as well.

I was there today and all types of tickets are available including the advance ones. No, they haven't got it wrong. The piece makes it clear it was talking about the situation yesterday, ie Tuesday, before the print version of the paper went to press, and if the reporter was told at that time that there was a problem issuing advance tickets, what else do you expect them to report? If alternative arrangements have now been made, maybe you could contact the West Briton and suggest they make that information more widely known, instead of taking cheap shots at very busy journalists - of whom I'm one. Title: Re: Roof Collapse At Truro Station Post by: RailCornwall on July 17, 2009, 15:35:39 Has the roof sprung another leak after yesterday's monsoon? Closed signs up again as I passed this morning.
Title: Re: Roof Collapse At Truro Station Post by: old original on July 17, 2009, 16:38:08 Yes, It was Tuesday afternoon apparently, about 16.30. Talking to those in the know there, it's a problem of getting rid of the excess water off the flat roof fast enough and in the right direction - out rather than in. They have taken advantage of being shut to do some unrelated work to the booking office floor, there was a man making a hell of a mess with a disc cutter there today. Meanwhile, the staff seemed to have done a good job at setting a couple of their ticket machines in two different offices so they can now sell all they're meant to - can't be easy for them or the passengers. I'll keep an eye on it.
Title: Re: Roof Collapse At Truro Station Post by: Chris from Nailsea on July 18, 2009, 23:20:50 I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks again, old original: please do continue to update us here (hopefully supplementing the acceptedly stretched coverage by the local press?) ;) Pax, willc? ::) Title: Re: Roof Collapse At Truro Station Post by: willc on July 19, 2009, 11:24:14 Chris, I have no problem with criticism of shoddy reporting - it's a large part of my job to stop that kind of thing seeing the light of day - but on this occasion, it was pretty clear from what had been written that the reporter had actually visited the station and spoken to FGW staff there and was simply reporting what they had been told at the time of that visit, close to the paper's press deadline. I'm not sure what more they could have done.
On the web there is almost always a facility to add comments to stories, as there is in this case, so someone could easily have put on an update about advance tickets now being available - instead, they chose to post on here about the press getting it 'wrong'. Title: Re: Roof Collapse At Truro Station Post by: Chris from Nailsea on July 20, 2009, 00:44:26 Fair comment - and thanks, willc, as ever! ;) :D ;D
Title: Re: Roof Collapse At Truro Station Post by: old original on July 24, 2009, 16:21:31 Passed through Truro today and there were two ticket windows were open in main office.
The temporary offices on the platform were closed and saw one of the clerks trundling a large trolley full of computer gear (ticket machine??) down the platform toward the main office, so perhaps there will be more windows open tomorrow. It does surprise me that the staff have to do all the resiting of the gear themselves...
