Title: Date indicators on tickets Post by: inspector_blakey on June 29, 2009, 23:52:42 Can any rail staff (or anyone else for that matter) enlighten me as to why the railway uses the slightly non-standard abbreviations JNR, FBY, MCH, JLY, DMR?
Are they designed to be as distinct as possible from each other to help staff when examining tickets, or to be as difficult as possible to tamper with and amend? Any thoughts...?? ??? Title: Re: Date indicators on tickets Post by: readytostart on June 30, 2009, 14:44:42 I can't seem to find any reason in any of the books I have to hand, other than an instruction to use the railway standard whn writing manual tickets (I think I've issued three in my career!).
I'm guessing it's to make the months as distinct as possible for both of the reasons you mentioned, i.e. MCH is harder to change to MAY than MAR and JUN is harder to change to JLY than JUL. I'll try and dig some more later on but for now it's nap time, 0430 starts make rts a grumpy boy!
